Community Profile
Sitio Ruby is located at Barangay Greater Fairview, East Fairview, Quezon City. The
population is made up of 216 individuals coming from 46 households. It is made up of 112
females and 104 males where 71 of the population are within the age bracket of 1-13 years old,
77 of them are 14-25 years old and 68 are those whose ages are from 36 and above.
Sitio Ruby is made up of six phases. The community has good camaraderie and is
cordial with one another. Gawad Kalinga, a non-government organization helps the community
secure houses for each family in the community. They also give free seminars tackling
livelihood that may help each family have their source of income.
In terms of their occupation and source of living, almost all are employed as construction
workers, family drivers, service crews, house attendants, government workers, self-employed
and only a small number of them are unemployed. 65% of the household said that their
husband/Father is their only bread winner, 20% are housewives and 5% are self-employed and
have their own sari-sari store as their sole source of income.
In terms of religious belief, about 98% are Roman Catholics and the rest are Born Again
Christians. They are mostly a Tagalog speaking community and others can speak their local
dialect like Waray, Bicolano, Bisaya etc.
As to their educational attainment. 46 are elementary students, 23 are high school
students, 23 college students, 6 are undergoing vocational courses, 28 are elementary
undergraduates, 55 high school undergraduates, 9 college undergraduates, while 26 did not
disclose their educational attainment.
In the aspect of the health seeking behavior of the community, they sought to consult to
the nearest health center which provide them with free medical checkups and medicines,
immunizations to their children and they also give health education lectures on how to prevent
diseases to occur in their community, most commonly Influenza, dengue, and tuberculosis
which are considered as contagious diseases.
For their community participation, the members of the community created their own
homeowner’s association called SIRNAI Sitio Ruby neighborhood association whose main task
is to solve problems that may arise within the community. They also created the KABABAIHAN
association which aims to empower the women in the community.
Rationale
Sitio Ruby is one of the adopted communities of Good Shepherd Cathedral School,
therefore, as members of the school, we are tasked to nurture this community by providing them
with fruitful knowledge and long-term benefits. According to the latest consensus, there are 85
million Roman Catholic Filipinos as of 2020, making the Philippines as one of the “Catholic
countries”. Due to the prominence of Catholicism in the country, the teachings and practices
included in this religion are already a part of Filipino identity and culture. These teachings do not
just encompass the concept of Catholicism itself because these can be integrated with the
academic curriculum, specifically in Catholic schools like Good Shepherd Cathedral School. In
that way, these children can adopt Christ-like attitudes while absorbing and learning new
information from a curriculum that is fused with gospel and Catholic values.
With this, the proponent of this project aims to enlighten the children of Sitio Ruby about
Catholicism and its significant role in society, in this context, the academic sector. The project
will be in a form of educational training which includes:
Interactive gospel and Bible Teaching
Creative and educational activities
Worship/Church songs sing-a-longs
The proponents will be inviting professional teachers of GSCS as the main speakers for
each session—this was agreed upon by the members as a means of maintaining the credibility
and reliability of the information that will be given to the children. Inspired by the TV program
“Superbook”, the teachers will also share stories about the different parables and adventures
that are narrated in the Bible. Activities and discussions that are equipped with child-friendly
elements will encourage these children to be participative, active, and interested during
sessions. The proponents believe that children, at their age, are already in the process of
establishing their own beliefs, principles, and faith. Therefore, through this initiative, the children
of Sitio Ruby are expected to feel enlightened about the concept of Catholicism and they are
also expected to apply the lessons that they have learned in their daily lives and in their future
endeavors.
Objectives
Objectives Strategies
• Teach Christian values to students Through lessons implemented,
Christian values, specifically Patience,
Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-
Control, Generosity, and Respect
shall be utilized as a way to prepare
the learners for their future
Interactive activities will be used as a
way of showing a physical
implementation of the values. This
can range from mock acting (partner
to partner) to group acts (group
cooperation where multiple values can
be observed). These activities can
also be done in a safe, but playful
manner. Ensuring not only the safety
of the learners but to also be able to
implement Christian values to them in
a fun way.
• Integrate Gospel teachings to Gospel teachings would be utilized as
educational lessons parts of the educational lessons that
are to be taught to learners. These
can come in forms of parables and
bible verses.
Gospel teachings integrated in
educational lessons will be
implemented in a balanced and
healthy way. Where it will be
mentioned or utilized fully without
compromising, as much as possible,
the learner's attention and interest.
We will be teaching them gospel-
fused educational lessons in a
manner where they can easily
understand the inputs of the teachers
while having fun.
• Achieve proper understanding of the gospel Through the initial lessons and
and values to be able to study and correctly teachings, assessments can be done
interpret for daily life in methods such as memory verses,
where they can memorize certain
bible verses, while being reminded of
their meanings; therefore, increasing
their understanding of the verses.
Through the usage of songs of
praises, initial lessons and teachings
can be used to see their
understanding for the meanings of
these songs. To view their level of
understanding and to see the relation
of these songs to how they can be
implemented to their daily lives.
Desired Impact and Long-Term Effects
One of Good Shepherd Cathedral School’s mission is to proclaim Jesus Christ to all.
Evangelization. Instill to the learners the Gospel values and how it is applied to their everyday
lives. Therefore, Grade 12 Prudence aims to extend that particular mission outside the school,
to our adopted community, the Sitio Ruby.
Through the initiative CatheKIDS, we aim to conduct a catechism for children aged 6-11
residing in Sitio Ruby. This initiative aims to instill Gospel values and help them apply it to their
everyday lives. This is not only to help them become better people, but to strengthen and
deepen their faith and help them understand it more. This catechism will tackle different parts
and books of the Bible, but to help the children grasp and understand it more, this initiative will
focus on teaching parables and some Bible verses, singing songs of praises, dancing as well to
the said songs, and memory verses at the end of every session, if time permits. Assuming the
kids have very little to no knowledge of the Bible, the said proposed activities for the children will
help them achieve or reach the depth in terms of their relationship Christ slowly, and step-by-
step.
As such, to be able to sustain this initiative for a long period of time, the Grade 12 -
Prudence will be partnering with the Parish of the Good Shepherd to continue the catechism on
our behalf for at least once or twice a year, helping them have a more in-depth understanding of
their faith since this initiative will be continued by the parish for a longer period of time.
