MECHANICS OF THE COMPETITIONS

Flair and Bartending


MECHANICS:
1.The contest is open to 1 st year to 4 th year college students of Hospitality Management.
Enrolled in 2nd semester A.Y. 2024-2025
2.Each participant is required to wear their flairtending attire of their choice.
3.Participants must bring their own practice bottle.
4.Each participant must prepare their own signature drink.
5.The committee will provide all the necessary ingredients (liquors, syrups, garnishes, etc.)
and bar tools (shaker, jigger, glasses, etc.) for flairtending.
6.Participants will be given only five minutes to perform.
7.Mis-en-place must be observed.
8. Participants are encouraged to showcase their creativity. Flaring can be performed at any
point during the given time, whether before, during, or after the mixing of drinks.
9. The participants should prepare their own background music for their performance.
10. The judges decision is final and irrevocable.
11. The participants must prepare a full presentation and three (3) samples in a shot glass for
judging of taste

Gastronomy
MECHANICS:
1.Open for all enrolled students in Hospitality Management.
2.Each team must be composed of three (4) members. The first five teams to register will get
the chance to join the contest.
3.Each team member must be a student enrolled in the second semester of the AY 2024-2025.
4.Each participant is required to wear their chef's gown uniform.
5.The main ingredient is mango. Every team is encouraged to come up with unique ideas
based on the main ingredient.
6.The participants must bring all the ingredients they need and provide at least three (3)
kitchen towels.
7.Each team will prepare one main course and one appetizer. The dish should be nutritionally
balanced and emphasize the mango taste.
8.All preparation and cooking of dishes, including garnishes, must be entirely made and
crafted on the spot. A team that brings in any cooked item will be disqualified.
9.Every team should prepare three plates for each dish (appetizer and main course). This will
mean a total of six (6) plates for each team.
10.Participants will bring their own cooking materials or equipment, including butane gas or
any portable stove.
11.1 hour and 30 minutes will be the maximum time given to prepare the appetizer and main
course.
12.Mise-en-place must be observed.

Table Setting
MECHANICS:
1. ALL participants shall be at the venue 1 hour prior to the competition. Group/ Teams who
will not comply may be disqualified from the event.
2. Each student participants (group) shall set- up a table.
3. The setting up shall start when the organizers give their signal to start. Groups/ team who
starts before the signal SHALL be disqualified
4. Allotted space for each group is 4m x 4m.
5. Menu shall be placed in the table. Description of the Set- up should be present.
6. Each group shall be composed of 2 members.
7. All participants shall wear: White long sleeves with tie, black pants and black shoes.
8. Participants are allowed to create their own ideas and concepts provided that they have
followed the guidelines.
9. Centerpieces shall only be crafted on the spot.
10. The groups will only provide the following: Numbers for each group.
11. All other materials shall be provided by the participants.
12. Judges and Organizers decision is final.
13. Open to all enrolled students of Hospitality Management.
14. All participants must be enrolled students in the 2nd semester of AY 2024-2025.

Fruit Carving
MECHANICS:

1. Open to all enrolled students of Hospitality Management.


2. All participants must be enrolled students in the 2nd semester of AY 2024-2025.
3. All participants must wear a chef uniform, apron, and hair net.
4. All participants must provide their own materials such as carving tools and chopping
board.
5. All participants must provide and use a large watermelon as their main fruit.
6. All participants may use any fruit or vegetable for additional design for their main piece.
7. All participants are required to produce one sculpture that is made of watermelon.
8. The piece should be made entirely of edible food. There are no plastic supports in the
frame.
9. All tools, including hand tools like chisels, knives, saws, drills, angle cutters, shaped
cutters, power drimmels, and other power tools like squares, levels, and other tools that are
available, are acceptable.
10. The participants must complete their art within 45 and describe the art.

FA Showmanship
Mechanic:

1. The competition is open to all Bonafide students currently enrolled in and semester of AY
2024-2025 in the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
2. Participants must have a Minimum of two 2) and Maximum of three (3) participants in a
group.
3. The participant/s must register on the Google Form posted on the CTHM-SBO page.
4. A script will be given before will be given beforehand so that participants still have time to
prepare and practice their performance
6. No assistants will be permitted. When caught, the contestant will be automatically
disqualified.
7. Contestants will be given 30 minutes to do their hair and makeup. She should make sure
that she completes the look, including her hair.
8. Contestants must present themselves in front of the judges.
9. Each contestant is responsible for securing and keeping her own tools and any necessary
supplies.
10. The winners will be announced after the final judging. The decisions of the judges are
final and irrevocable.

Mechanics:

1. Each team shall decorate a pre- constructed booth.


2. They can decorate their booths on June 19,2025 only.
3. Each tent should be decorated according to a theme of their choice, the theme should be
align in Encantadia.
4. They can use recycled and indigenous materials for the decoration.
5. Cleanliness of the booth before, during and after they're done using it shall also be judged,
1 point deduction to every trash that will be seen on the booths.
6. Every booth should have trash bags or trash can.
7. The judges' decision shall be final and irrevocable.

Bed making competition
Mechanics:

1) Open to all Hospitality Management and Tourism Management from First year and Third
year.
2) Each team must provide 2 participants for the competition.
3) The participants are required to wear a black slack and white polo shirt (gentlemen) balck
pants and white polo shirt (ladies) and flat black shoes.
4) Participants should be present at least half an hour (30 minutes) before the competition;
competitors who arrived late will be given deductions.
5) Contestants shall be given (15 minutes) for the execution of proper bed making setup.
6) Linens to be used by the contestant will be provided by the event organizer such as:
1 Bed pad
1 Flat Sheet
1 duvet
1 Duvet Cover
2 pillowcases
2 Bath Towels
7) Added decor to enhance the bed is allowed.
8) Reminder: if the participants accidentally or purposely stained the linen the accountable
participants should have the linen laundered and returned 2 days after the competition.
10. The competition is open to all Bonafide students currently enrolled in 2nd semester of AY
2024-2025 in the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Deductions:
1. Failure to be at the venue on the given time, 1-point deduction for every 5 minutes
2. Incomplete Attire/Uniform = 2 Points.
3. Exceeds the time given for the execution = 1 Point per 1 minute.
4. Alternation of participants on the day of the competition is allowed BUT will be given
deduction = 5 Points at the total score of the judges.

Tour Guiding Competition
Mechanics:

1. The contest is open to all bonafide college students of Tourism Management, Second
Semester, 2024-2025
2. Participants must wear proper attire for tour guiding, including the first aid kit, whistle, and
name tags. The wearing of revealing, inappropriate, or lewd clothes shall be prohibited. They
must also prepare two (2) flags: white and red. It’s their strategy for how they will use the
two (2) flags during their presentation.
3. Participants must select a municipality for their presentation.
4. The developing destinations should be limited to Zambales.
5. There shall be one (1) entry per student, regardless of year and section. One submitted
form response is considered one entry.
6. The participants are allowed to use props to set the mood, background, and ambiance as
long as the subjects themselves or their clothing choices (including color) are not altered.
7. Each participant shall prepare a 5- to 6-mminute presentation.
8. You may submit your entries through the form provided by the SBO.
9. The winner will be announced after the final judging. The decision of the judges is final
and irrevocable. No protest or complaint shall be entertained, as judgment is made with
finality. Only queries and suggestions should be entertained for future competitions.

Vlog Competition
Mechanics:
1. The contest is open to all bonafide college students of Tourism Management, Second
Semester, 2024-2025.
2. All submitted work must be original work and between 5-7 minutes in length, including
credits. The selection committee will accept only 2 participants per group.
3. The participants can use Tagalog or English as their medium of speaking.
4. Each entry must focus on featuring the beauty of selected towns in Zambales
5. Cellphone and camera are allowed to use as a tool to promote the place.
6. The content’s language must be appropriate for an audience of all ages. Entries containing
foul and offensive language will be immediately disqualified.
7. When using images, sounds, or music in the entry, references of information and Other
related sources used in the video must be cited, crediting the original owner.
8. All entries must begin with a 5-second full-screen title page that follows the format
below:

10.Participants should keep at least one (1) copy of their video.
11.Intellectual property ownership of the project remains to the participants solely.

Quiz Bee Competition
Mechanics:
1. The participants must be Bonafide students of the CTHM Department in the 2nd Semester
of A.Υ. 2024-2025.
2. This is a team competition. Each team should consist of five (4) members.
3. There will be three (3) levels in the competition: EASY, AVERAGE, and DIFFICULT.
4. The easy round has ten (10) questions worth one (1) point; the average round has ten (10)
questions worth three (3) points; and the difficult round has ten (10) questions/worth five (5)
points. Just in case there is a tie in score, a clincher round will be conducted.
5. The Quiz Bee covers the following subjects: Micro and Macro Perspectives in Tourism and
Hospitality Management and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).
6. The students will write their answers on an illustration board to be given by the facilitators.
7. All teams will answer the same set of questions. The students must raise their markers or
chalk when someone is asking the questions.

8. No elimination round; all teams will proceed through the three (3) rounds of the
competition
9. The questions will be read by the quizmaster twice. After the second (2nd) reading, the
quizmaster shall say "Go", only then will the teams be allowed to write their answers.
Automatically, the ten (10) second time limit (for easy and moderate and the fifteen (15)
second time limit (for difficult) will begin with the word "Go" by the quizmaster.
10. After the time limit, the quizmaster shall say "boards up", and the team must stop writing
and raise their answer board. The quizmaster shall read and verify the team's answer.
11. At the end of the competition, the team with the highest score will be the champion

Debate Competition
Mechanics:

1. The contest is open to all Bonafide college students of Tourism and Hospitality
Management in the Second Semester of AY 2024-2025.
2. It consists of 4 teams competing, each team having four (4) members.
3. There will be two rounds. For each round, 2 members for each team will be the speaker
and the other 2 will be eligible to sub or to support the team speakers with facts during the
debate.
4. The Affirmative and Negative side will be decided by coin toss and both teams will have a
5-minute leeway for brainstorming for the topic they will get.
5. The first speaker on the affirmative team presents arguments in support of the resolution.
(2-3 minutes)
6. The first speaker on the opposing team presents arguments opposing the resolution. (2-3
minutes)
7. The second speaker on the affirmative team presents further arguments in support of the
resolution, identifies areas of conflict, and answers questions that may have been raised by
the opposition speaker. (2-3 minutes)
8. The second speaker on the opposing team presents further arguments against the
resolution, identifies further areas of conflict, and answers questions that may have been
raised by the previous affirmative speaker. (2 - 3 minutes).
9. The rules will include a 5-minute recess for teams to prepare their rebuttals.
10. The opposing team begins with the rebuttal, attempting to defend the opposing arguments
and to defeat the supporting arguments without adding any new information. (2-3 minutes)
11. First rebuttal of the affirmative team (2-3 minutes)
12. Each team gets a second rebuttal for closing statements with the affirmative team having
the last opportunity to speak. (2-3 minutes
NEWS
13. There cannot be any interruptions. Speakers must wait their turns. The
committee/facilitators may need to enforce the rules.

Note:

• The WHITE FLAG is raised when the time is over.


• A RED FLAG will be raised when there are violations to the questions being raised by the
candidates
• NO profanities, insults, and personal attacks are allowed.
• The Debate must be held with RESPECT.

Extemporaneous Speech Competition

Mechanics:

1. The participants must be Bonafide student of CTHM Department, 2nd Semester of AY


2024-2025.
2. Open to all students under CTHM. This is a team competition. Each group should consist
of one (1) participant.
3. The topics shall be given on the spot by the judges. Hence, the judges shall give topics
related to the theme prior to the start of the competition.
4. Participants shall pick a question from the provided topics' box. There will be different
questions for each participant.
5. Papers and pens are provided to help contestants organize their thoughts during preparation
time.
6. The contestants shall be given three (3) minutes to prepare and five (5) minutes to deliver.
7. There will be an assigned moderator to monitor and to organize the flow of the participants
during the competition
8. NO reading of lines during the speech.
9. The delivery style shall be conversational, oratorical or a combination of both.
10. The contestants must wear semi-formal attire.
11. The judge's decision is final. At the end of the competition, the student on the top seed
will be the champion.

Hair and Make-Up
MECHANICS:
1. The Hair and Make Up Contest is open for all bonafide CTHM students, enrolled in 2nd
semester of A.Y. 2024-2025.
2. Each group must provide a 1 participant for the competition.
3. Participants must arrive with a clean face and no makeup.
4. The make-up and hair must be appropriate for a tourism and hospitality professional.
5. Contestants must bring their own makeup and hair tools during the said event.
6. No assistants will be permitted. When caught, the contestant will be automatically
disqualified.
7. Contestants will be given 30 minutes to do her hair and makeup. She should make sure that
she completes the
look, including her hair.
8. Contestants must present themselves in front of the audience.
9. It is the responsibility of each contestant to secure and keep her own tools and any
necessary supplies.
10. The winners will be announced after the final judging. The decisions of the judges are
final and irrevocable.
