Clinical Technology: Artificial Intelligence
The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical settings represents one of the
latest healthcare innovations, and it has advanced significantly in the past few years. This
paper will examine its implications on the nursing profession, as well as its applications,
results, and impacts in healthcare environments.
Impact and Outcomes
AI has transformed medical services by improving patient participation, therapeutic
proposals/protocols, and illness identification such that in various sectors of medical services,
it frequently outperforms humans by using massive information to find trends and forecast
outcomes (Alowais et al., 2023). AI technologies have minimized accidental errors while
increasing accuracy, preserving finances, and saving time (Alowais et al., 2023).
Additionally, this technology has enhanced the oversight of population health, streamlined
drug doses, and facilitated customized treatment (Alowais et al., 2023).
Application in Medical Environments
There are several ways that AI is applied in therapeutic environments:
I. Disease Identification: AI systems examine patient information along with imaging
studies to precisely and early identify illnesses (Alowais et al., 2023).
II. Treatment Recommendations: AI offers individualized therapy suggestions that
incorporate patient information and past results (Alowais et al., 2023).
III. Clinical Decision Support: By offering pertinent information and findings, AI helps
physicians make well-informed judgments (Das, 2024).
IV. Remote Monitoring: Responsive treatment of chronic illnesses is made possible by
AI-powered gadgets that continually track clients' vital signs and health indicators
(Das, 2024).
Impact of AI on Nursing Care
The function of nurses and nursing services are greatly impacted by AI technology:
I. Increased Efficiency: By automating administrative duties, AI allows nurses more
time so they can focus on improving patient care (Dailah et al., 2024).
II. Better Patient Monitoring: AI-powered gadgets allow for ongoing patient monitoring,
which improves the treatment of long-term illnesses and allows for prompt
interventions (Dailah et al., 2024).
III. Less Errors: AI lessens the possibility of mistakes being made when managing patient
data and administering medications (Dailah et al., 2024).
IV. Greater Patient Engagement: AI technologies help nurses and patients communicate
more effectively, which enhances patient education and care participation (Dailah et
al., 2024).
Impacts of Future Nursing Roles
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform the field of nursing in several
ways, improving the treatment of patients and medical institutions' overall effectiveness. AI
is anticipated to have an influence on nursing professions in the following significant areas:
1. Clinical Guidance
Large volumes of medical records may be analyzed by AI-powered clinical decision-
support platforms to give nurses useful information (Rony et al., 2024). By predicting patient
outcomes, identifying possible health hazards, and suggesting remedies, these technologies
help nurses make better judgments (Rony et al., 2024).
2. Analytical Prediction
By analyzing medical records, AI systems can anticipate health problems before they
get more acute. AI, for instance, may evaluate test data and vital signs to identify patients
who may be in danger of worsening, allowing nurses to take preventative action (Rony et al.,
2024).
3. Efficiency in Administration
AI can reduce the load of documentation by streamlining bureaucratic processes.
Automated systems that can retrieve appropriate data from electronic health records (EHRs)
or transcribe discussions can help with record-keeping, inventory management, and schedule
automation (Nashwan et al., 2024). Nurses can concentrate more on providing personalized
treatment for patients because of this efficiency (Nashwan et al., 2024).
4. Individualized Medical Attention
Individualized medical care is made possible by AI tools like sensor-based technology
and mobile health apps (Nashwan et al., 2024). These solutions enable preventative treatment
of chronic illnesses and individualized care regimens by enabling nurses to track clients'
medical histories in real time (Nashwan et al., 2024).
5. Remote monitoring and telemedicine
AI improves telemedicine by making online conversations and distant monitoring
possible; thus, by providing treatment and follow-up services without requiring in-person
visits, nurses may increase patient access and streamline their caseloads (Nashwan et al.,
2024).
6. Robotic Support
Robotic devices can help nurses with duties like administering medicine and doing
surgery, which will increase the accuracy and efficiency of care delivery (Soriano et al.,
2022).
7. Constant Learning and Adjustment
Nurses must continue their studies and professional development as technological
developments advance; hence, nursing staff may effectively utilize technology advancements
while delivering high-quality care if they invest in ongoing professional growth (Rony et al.,
2024).
Challenges and Considerations
AI has many advantages, but it also has drawbacks, including the necessity for
accurate instruction, privacy concerns, and aversion to transformation (Nashwan et al., 2024).
To provide empathetic and personalized care, nurses need to strike an equilibrium between
using technology and having one-on-one conversations with patients (Nashwan et al., 2024).
Conclusion
Summarily, artificial intelligence (AI) can revolutionize nursing positions by
facilitating medical decision-making, increasing administrative effectiveness, facilitating
individualized care, and promoting lifelong learning.
