THE PROPOSAL PAPER SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 10 PAGES FOR M.ENG
AND 15 PAGES FOR PhD.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This should be written in not more than three pages. It should contain background of the study,
statement of problem, justification, aim and objectives of the research. Scope and limitations of
the research should be stated.
Recent literatures must be used. At least 60% of the citations must be within the last four years.
2.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY/STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The students are expected give clear background of their study. Students are also expected to
spell out the identified problem which prompted the research. State-of-the-art literatures (not
more than 4 years old) should be used to support the assertion made.
3.0 AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of the research should be stated and it should provide the overall direction of the
research. Wording that are all encompassing such as investigate, evaluate, understand, develop
etc. could be used. The objectives provide specific steps that should be followed to achieve the
overall aim of the research. They should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-
bound. Wording such as determine, examine, analyze, collect, review etc. could be used. At the
end of the research conclusions should be drawn based on the stated objectives.
4.0 SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
Scope are the parameters under which the study will be operating, whereas the limitations are
matters and occurrences that may arise in the study which are out of the researcher’s control.
Students are expected to clearly state the scope and limitations of their researches.
