Introduction

Leaders have a great role in ensuring that the daily activities are geared towards

achieving the set goals in the expected timeframe for maximum results. This, however, they

cannot achieve alone. Employees have also become an integral part of organizational

success. In both challenging and comfortable working space, their output is at maximum.

Nonetheless, to push them to maximum production, a leader has to develop and adapt to

influential tactics that would leave them, the stakeholders as well, satisfied and happy. In

recent times organizations have sought to become all-inclusive and look to incorporate the

society in their activities. Being part of the organization’s external business environment,

they have the responsibility to uplift society. Leaders, same as before, are tasked with

developing a production system the organization can adapt to, thus achieving this goal.

Leaders Contribution to Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a kind of self-guideline in inward personal

business that is changed towards adding to cultural objectives of an altruistic, dissident and

additionally generous nature by being included effectively or inactively on the side of the

general public; hence, being socially responsible (DuBrin, 2016). Leaders contribute to the

development of numerous influential corporate CSR initiatives that are set to positively

contribute to the environment, the economy, and the public (Thorpe, 2018). For this, they

have created numerous important tactics to achieve organizational goals this.

6

Travis Kalanik

Travis Kalanik is one of the renowned business leaders globally. His achievements are

diverse, ranging from being a scour co-founder; a peer-to-peer file and application

exchange platform own Red Swoosh; a peer-to-peer network later sold in 2007 which

delivers contents as well as Uber which is in the transport industry thus building a suitable

environment (LtdKatz, 2015nd). Travis creates a suitable working environment by advising and

communicating with the employees. These strategies involve accepting mistakes, apologies of

the employees, and advising them on effective ways of handling issues. He has had remarkable

contributions to CSR (DuBrin, 2016). Under his Uber invention, falls UberEats that deliver

food services, UberRush that delivers goodies and groceries, as well as Uber itself that has

reduced congestion in the transport industry, thus engaging in social entrepreneurship

(Huché-DenisetUber, n.d.2017). All these are services for society and have created

employment. He also launched a self-drive car technology aimed at improving safety

among drivers. These outcomes are integral to understanding what people want.

Therefore, Kalanik can be touted as farsighted and insightful in ways to include the society

under his belt of achievements.

Hessa Ali Aljoker

Hessa Ali Aljoker, self-made, born in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, together with her

sister, Fatma Ali Aljoker, created PEARLA. It is an extravagant Dubai based fashion
7

brand that creates conceptual ready-to-wear garments. Their fashion sense is wearable in

everyday life made from the finest fabrics. Based on our observation, Tthe company has had

a remarkable influence on CSR. The main concept behind the PEARLA brand is the

introduction of contemporary and abstract pieces that merge art, storytelling, and a wide

range of imagination with fashion; hence they have become a household name in the

fashion industry that is based on enriching art and culture in their society. Her employees

receive a bonus for building a suitable workplace (AnonymVich, 202015). Annually, Hessa

makes sure a new project enters the company, so there are excitement and hiring of more

employees to help her achieve her goals. She makes sure to treat employees equally and like

family, in this way, minimizing abusive supervision (AnonymZhao, & Guo, 202019) while

they work. Hessa Ali Aljoker creates a conducive working environment by incorporating

employees and other stakeholders in the decision making processes. When employees engage in

decision-making processes, they feel part and parcel of the company, thus considering their

company “theirs”. This consideration makes such employees improve their performances.

Additionally, the bonuses provided by Hessa Ali Aljoker to the companies’ employees are

essential for the employees’ performance.

Henry Ford

Henry Ford was known as the American Industrialist and the founder of the well-known

company Ford Motor and developer of line technique with respect to mass production. He
8

is famous for the creation of Model T motor vehicles in 1908 that went for the development

of different modes that would eventually have a hand in the revolution of the automobile

industry. It was Henry’s idea to raise the salaries of the workers and lower down the cost of

vehicles in the best possible ways rippling out the overall change in the society by

developing the interstate system of a highway for the middle-class to engage in social

entrepreneurship (Carraher et al. 2016Romero, 2017). He revolutionized the element of

diversity by hiring the minorities and the disabled as a way of building a sustainable

environmentcreating a pleasant workplace (Chabrak, 2015). In addition to these, he ensured to

provide all the relevant health benefits to the employees, a major goal for the Ford

Foundation for the welfare of human beings.

Marc Benioff

Marc Benioff is an American businessperson with the a net worth of 7.8 billion based on

May 2020 statistical data (Benioff, 2020). He is the founder, chair, and Chief Executive

Officer of Salesforce Company (cloud-based software application) in the provision of

customer relationship management services. He always thinks innovatively to bring new

ideas of technologies to the market that requires the inculcation of fresh new talented

employees in order to achieve technological development resultantly helps building to build

a suitable environment (Marc, 2017Wilburn & Wilburn, 2015). This increases efficiency and

rubs off the effect of traditional techniques by working with suppliers to improve working

conditions (Larcker et al., 2018Herbold, 2014). Marc claimed that one of his key stakeholders

are the suppliers. Marc maintains close communication with his suppliers to access information
9

concerning his competitors and improves his internal and external environment. Therefore,

through the information, Marc identifies effective strategies to implement in order to create a

sustainable workforce and effective products. He is planning an annual conference to

enlighten employees, partners, and customers on the set goals of the company and offer

influential tactics of how to achieve them. Talking to the various stakeholders and society

at large enriches vision, focus, and precision not only in their work but also in their daily

life activities; on that account, a mentor.

Bill Gates

Bill Gates is an entrepreneur and computer programmer who is co-founder of Microsoft

Corporation, which is the biggest personal computer Software Company. Gates and

Microsoft’s co-founder, Paul Alien, started developing the software while in the University

for the first microcomputers. Today, Bill Gates is known for his charitable efforts in the

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which invests its resources, time, and talent to address

the global inequalities, on that account, engaging in philanthropy (AbigailJHess, 2020Fisher,

2019). The foundation is in support of numerous various initiatives focused on the

eradication of diseases and improvement of living standards in developing and

underdeveloped countries. In 2017, Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation contributed £4.6bn to

improve global health care and eradicate poverty (Bill, 2017). With the growth of the company

and the inclusion of new talent developers and software engineers, working with suppliers

to improve working conditions (Richard & Monica, 2017Pham et al., 2018), Bill

communicated with these teams to find out means of integration of upcoming trends into
10

their products (GalloRampton, 20169) creating many employment opportunities for the

society as well as improving technology for them. As a socially responsible leader, showing

respect to the employees and building good interaction practices with the employees is essential

for the performance of the company (DuBrin, 2016). Therefore, Bill’s communication with the

employees was essential for the success of the organization. Although Bill has been strict in

monitoring employees, including attendance, he has promoted unity and teamwork among the

employees, thus developing a conducive working environment.

Leader Influence Tactic to Achieve Corporate Social Responsibility

Travis Kalanik

Based on our view, Travis Kalanik has effectively been able to adapt influential tactics

aimed at initiating and improving CSR in the nature of his work. Over a controversy over

his company’s supposed unethical misconduct, Kalanik was forced to resign as a CEO due

to shareholder pressure that led to his resignation in 2017. The bounce back from this

ordeal that also saw him sell over 90% of his Uber shares sit well as a an

inspirationallegitimating leader appeal (Bukacek & TalianoGreenhouse, 202016). Being

assertive and determined as he was has made CSR flourish. Corporate organizations are

determined to uphold society's inclusion in their activities. According to DuBrin (2016),

pressureThe leadership by example (Schoemaker et al., 2018) and assertiveness portrayed by

Kalanik has have further led to the effectiveness of CSR execution. Concerning his

communication skills, he speaks in a quiet and measured manner, which allows him to field
11

questions and thoughts while expressing his visions. Based on our view, oOrganizations have

adopted this tactic in the execution of CSR.

Hessa Ali Aljoker

Where the leader in the creative person as Hessa is, inclusiveness and unilateral thirst to

strive for more, employees or subordinates of such leaders that have to be keen and

motivated come at a price. A successful leader adopts motivation as essential in the line of

business. Hessa makes sure that every employee receives a bonus as reciprocation for their

enthusiasm. Corporate organizations influence individuals throughhave built symbiotic

relationships exchange and consultation approaches (Zou et al., 2015DuBrin, 2016) with the

society that enforces CSR. For Hessa, leadership is a linking factor between the perceptions

of the organization and the team. To lead the team without any pressure, she is

inspirational, effective, and legitimatingcharismatic (Anomym, 2020Sy & Riggio, 2018).

Hessa always encourages and advises employees on the effectiveness of various approaches to

meet their goals and the organizational goal. This concept has helped her establish a

successful enterprise in the UAE. In the CSR functionality, organizations and society have

enacted ways to agree to work together with calm but effective tactics (DuBrin, 2016).
12

Henry Ford

Henry understood the different needs and struggled that a common man was going

through. He tried to motivate his employees with inspirational speeches. These speeches

enable employees to persevere through the hard times since most of his motivational speeches

focused on providing courage to individuals undergoing hard situations. Since work entails

difficulties, it makes employees maintain focus on their duties. He revolutionized diversity by

hiring the disabled and the minority to try and achieve the aim to ease life for the common

man. Through leading by example (Aij & Rapsaniotis, 2017), According to Ford (n.d.) to all

employees were behind him in his will to do good for the community. CSR is built on both

entities rationally persuading each other to become more effective. Henry’s leadership style

is about diversity, empathy, and inclusion. To enforce these, he gave inspirational speeches

to all team members to motivate them; , acts of charismathus integrating employees into

working moods (Braunberger et al.,DuBrin, 20168). CSR respects the diversity of the

members involved, thus deals with them in appreciative ways (DuBrin, 2016). He even

ensured to provide all the needed health benefits to the employees, thus strengthening the

bond.

Marc Benioff

Benioff is arranging an annual conference called Dreamforce, where he talks on matters

concerning the yearly plans and visions of the company. He uses this conference to bring

up to date the employees about his vision for the company and inspire stakeholders to work
13

for and with him to achieve the vision and long term goals. He develops a reputation as a

subject matter expert (Matthew, n.d.Baumgartner et al., 2016), thus developing rational

persuasion to ensure employees improve their performance. CSR requires that the entities

involved are matter experts to build a reputation with for what they have achieved by

working together. The charismatic (Obschonka, & Fisch, 2018) leader According to DuBrin

(2016) leadership qualities, Marc is a transformational leader who brings major positive

changes to the company. As a result of working under a transformational and charismatic

charming leader, employees and stakeholders have a lot of positivity and unity in them.

CSR is achieved when there is a lot of unity and positivity (DuBrin, 2016).

Bill Gates

Bill Gates's style was transactional and motivational. Bill Gates always empowers people,

including his employees, by and creatinge new opportunities for new talents and encouraging

creativity within his workforce. Besides, people always follow him because of the

charismacharm he exudes to individuals, especially employees. His interactions with the

company’s production team involved brainstorming through difficult questions, which

some termed intimidating until he had the assurance that they were on track, and the

objectives were understood. He was consistent in his leadership that bred admiration not

only from employees but globally. Based on DuBrin (2016) claim that “a good leader should

lead by an example,” BillHe led by example (Pearce & Wassenaar, 2015) to influence others to

strive for excellence as he does. Organizations, in relation to society, have to consistent and

lead by example to achieve CSR. Through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that
14

addresses the global inequalities (Gates, n.d.), they have shown charismacharm and

inspirational appeal. (Griffith et al., 2015). The foundation strives to eradicate diseases and

improving standards of living in underdeveloped and developing countries. Being caring

and compassionate has led many corporate organizations to do the same for the society

they are in hence upholding CSR (DuBrin, 2016).

Four out of five leaders have used charmingisma as an influence tactic that has enhanced

CSR. Three out of the same five leaders have used an additional tactic of leadership by

example that has brought about a lot of success to their respective organizations. In the

case of CSR effectiveness during the application, we concluded that being a charismatic

charm and reasonable in the daily dealings brings more success. There is a low level of

resistance expected when this tactic is applied as it needs to. Compared to other

intimidating strategies, being humane in the execution of activities brings more success.

Leading by example, has a very high level of efficiency and a low level of resistance. This is

possible because there is a unifying factor that links the employees with their leaders. CSR

is effective when there is a sort of leadership to bring cooperation.

Four Recommendations to Other Leaders

The We agreed that the most recurrent tactics applied by the leaders discussed; ,

charismainspirational and leadership by example, by example,, still have room for

improvement to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in execution. First, tTo improve

further on leadership by examplethem, we agreed that a leaders should have to stretch to

15

higher levels of discipline that will project to the society and corporate stakeholders

(Vergauwe et al., 2018Bundrant, 2019). They are should be able to show their moral

convictions, support them calmly, assertively, and with an open-mindedness that will

improve their leadership skills. As organizations grow, many aspects like technology change

to accommodate growth. Leaders need to lead by example through accepting the change and

implementing these changes. The best way to ensure this is by incorporating employees but

acting as a team leader in the change and new business techniques adopted. have to be able to

adapt to the changes quickest and with effectiveness. Having subordinates, partners, and the

society looking up to your leadership would have a leader try and add the recommendations to

these tactics and see how effectively they work and aspiring to your leadership will make a

leader to be an idol (TonyCiulla, 2020). Therefore, employees will be interested in following

the steps and strategies of their leaders. This will enable the leader to drive the employees

towards the organizational goal easily.

In addition to that,Secondly, we recommend that leaders should have to aspire to keep

learning in order to be at a level with the current status of the organization and all its

factors, the society included.

Leaders have to be willing to take more responsibilities, that will help them add to their

experience and knowledgethus aspiring and inspiring the employees to the same direction of

leadership. To sustain the levels of mentorship globally is an uphill task. Therefore, celebrated

leaders have to show high standards of performance to bring more confidence to them and

the people who look up to themother stakeholders through inspirational directives and

encouragement. In their added experience, they learn how to deal with other people. They are
16

able to comfortably co-exist and work with others in a progressive environment while applying

personal magnetism, as a result helps becoming an aspiration to the people related to him/her in

any form. Leaders have to also learn how to follow. Therefore, acting as an example and

inspiring employees will create respect and understanding in an organization or a company, thus

promoting the same culture towards accomplishing an organizational goal. To achieve great

heights of leadership, leaders have to learn to follow other people who are also right in their

ways of execution. It improves cooperation and a sense of responsibility in both highlighted

influence tactics.

Reflection on Learning

There are great insights derived from the project. In order to become an effective

leader who projects a lot of success and determination, one has to be one with the

employees and other entities in the organization. To establish effective working

environments, the leader has to lead by example. He/she has to be able to do what the

employees do more efficiently and effectively, and that is what will inspire people to work

for and together with you to achieve success. Being charismatic charming in ways of working

also leads to effective leadership. Being generous enough to include society brings forth

cooperation. Dealing with the diversity of challenges that are faced and coming out strong

at the end makes leadership more fun and fruitful. Building symbiotic relationships where

people rely on one another to build and motivate each other breeds more success in

leadership and society.

Amna AlFarsi
17

I have learnt learned that inspirational appeal brings more cooperation than resistance.

Being charming and charismatic charmingtap topics into personal magnetism that inspires

people to be like me with the objective to be in on healthy terms with all who I work with.

Shamma AlReyami

Explaining the importance of something to someone improves effectiveness because people

know what is required of them. I prefer to practice apprising because everyone knows what

is in for them when what is required of them is executed, thus sealing many deals.

Nada AlMazrouei

Coalition The coalition tactic works well when the stakeholders are many. In my career, I

would like to initiate systems that build team cooperation aimed at improving the set

targets. I would like to show the importance of working collectively.

Mariam AlDarmaki

The application of personal appeal seems to work best for me. Personal requests to an

entity to do something for me increases the chances that the execution will be thorough. I

would like to build productive personal relationships with the people I work with.
