Gender & Labor
GENDER
AND
LABOR
Definition of Gender and Labor
Gender and Labor refer to the study and analysis of the different
roles, responsibilities, and expectations society places on individuals
based on their gender in the context of work and employment.
GENDER
— refers to the socially constructed roles,
behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given
Haha society considers appropriate for men and
women. It goes beyond biological differences
and encompasses a range of identities that do
not necessarily align with biological sex.
LABOR
— refers to the body of work
available in an economy at any
given time. It includes all forms
of employment, from manual
labor to white-collar work.
The term “Gender and Labor ” ,when combined,
becomes an area of study that investigates how
gender influences the division of labor, wage gaps,
employment opportunities, work conditions, and
labor rights. It also examines how these factors
contribute to systemic inequalities and seeks to
promote gender equality in the workplace.
