Royal Dutch Shell

Royal Dutch Shell, commonly known as Shell, is a multinational oil and gas company
that was founded in 1907 as a result of a merger between Royal Dutch Petroleum Company of
the Netherlands and Shell Transport and Trading Company Ltd of the UK.

Before the merger, Royal Dutch Petroleum Company was founded in 1890 by Jean
Baptiste August Kessler, a Dutch merchant, to explore and produce oil in the Dutch East Indies
(now Indonesia). Shell Transport and Trading Company was established in the UK in 1897 to
import and sell oriental shells, but later diversified into oil and gas exploration and production.
The merger of the two companies in 1907 created a global leader in the oil and gas industry.
Shell continued to expand its operations over the years, including during World War II, when it
played a vital role in providing fuel to Allied forces.

In the 1970s, Shell became embroiled in controversy over its activities in the Niger Delta
region of Nigeria, where it was accused of environmental pollution and human rights abuses.
The company has since made efforts to improve its social and environmental impact.

Today, Shell is one of the largest companies in the world, with operations in more than
70 countries and over 90,000 employees. Its activities span the entire oil and gas value chain,
from exploration and production to refining, marketing, and distribution. The company is also
involved in renewable energy and has set targets to reduce its carbon footprint.

Number of branches Internationally and Locally

Royal Dutch Shell operates in more than 70 countries around the world, and the
company has numerous subsidiaries, joint ventures, and partnerships in each of these
countries. It is difficult to determine an exact number of branches as the company's
organizational structure can change over time, and the specific types of operations and facilities
can vary by location. However, it is safe to say that there are a large number of Royal Dutch
Shell branches operating internationally, each with their own unique focus and responsibilities.

As of September 2021, there were more than 1,100 Shell retail stations operating in the
Philippines. These retail stations are owned and operated by Shell's local subsidiary in the
country, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation. In addition to the retail stations, Shell also has a
lubricants blending plant and a bitumen production facility in the Philippines. It is worth noting
that the number of Shell branches in the Philippines may have changed since then, as
companies often expand or contract their operations over time.
