CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Industrial Case Study :-

It is experienced personally and which changes the behaviour. It is of at most importance


because it overall increases the productivity of any work. Apart from this it also helps to
motivate and inspire the fresher’s by letting them know the practical work.

It refers to the work experience which is essential for professional development of an


individual. It provides work experience with specific assignment and responsibility. It helps
students to learn decision making and improve their ability.

It helps us to visualize the concepts in a better way as everything is visible on a site and this
increases our hard skills, on the other hand interacting with the people on the site increases our
soft skills and make students a little more eligible for a job in this field as we have some prior
knowledge of how things work on site.

1.2 Objectives of Industrial case study :-

i. To able to work and improve knowledge about construction on site work.


ii. To able to learn various new things and to have practical knowledge.
iii. To provide insight into various aspects of construction and how things run at
the site.
iv. To able to improve various technical skill according to demand on site.
v. To build confidence before entering into market.

CHAPTER2
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
2.1 Project Details:

The ICS was carried out at Hudkeshwar. The detailed information regarding the project is given
below

 Type of Structure: Bridge & Road

 Cost of Construction : ₹ 25 Crore

2.2 Ownership details:

The project conducted under government organisation. (Public Work Department)

(MDR-35) Km 3/00 to 8/00 in Tah. & Distt. Nagpur.
 Construction of WBM Road at Advali – Umred In Tah. and Distt.
Nagpur.
 Construction of bridge.

Major Bridge :-
- M10 grade of concrete is used in PCC.
- M25 grade of concrete is used in Raft foundation.
- Various diameter of steel bar used in Raft foundation (ie. 12mm,
16mm, 20mm)

Matkazari & Advali Road :-


- Murrum
- Granular Sub Base (GSB)
- Grade 1 :- 80 mm size of aggregate
- Grade 2 :- 20 - 40 mm mix size of aggregate
- Modified Penetrated macadam (MPM)
- Bitumen
- Metal dust
- Sealcoat

CHAPTER 3
WORK EXPERIENCE

I undertook a 3 month of internship under Public Work Department.


PWD is one of the biggest government body in the country, with multiple responsibilities. So
the first thing I had to do was sign non-disclosure agreements. After that, I was assigned a
supervisor. I was expected to report back to the supervisor at the end of each week with
questions and an overview of what I had learned.

At the start of each week, I was sent to a new sites where I was briefed about the work and then
given small tasks. There were sites with different work going on like construction of bridge,
Road construction, road widening etc.

After two weeks I was assigned to do a small daily work such as checking-reinforcement
detailing, strength of concrete cubes, doses of bitumen, cross checking of dimension on field
with respect to drawing etc.

In short, I was treated and acted like a regular supervisor of the work. I had to be there at 11:00
every morning, dressed properly, and ready to have positive interactions with employee at all
times. Over those 3 months, I have developed friendships with co-workers, got feedback from
superiors, and was for the first time treated like a fully grown and responsible adult.

My three months at sites allowed me to grow personally, but it also helped me to gain new
skills on field and experience that I did not previously have. I also gained a better understanding
of the construction work on field, made a new network, and gained a few new references for
the future. But most importantly, I have a new sense of professionalism and a clearer view of
what it meant to be in the professional world.

CHAPTER 4
OBSERVATIONS AND DISCUSSION

Observations made during project study were as follows:

Major Bridge :-
- The length of bridge is 63 m.
- The width of bridge is 9m.
- The 7 span of 9m centre to centre.
- The structure of bridge is same as the existing bridge.
- The thickness of cut of wall is 500mm & depth of wall is 3m & width 9m.
- Raft foundation is provided in cut off wall.

Materials used :-

- M10 grade of concrete is used in PCC.


- M25 grade of concrete is used in Raft foundation.
- 20 MM of steel bar used in Raft foundation.

Procedure :-
i. Excavation of soil
ii. Construction of cut off wall having height 3 m
iii. Filling of hard strata with cut off wall up to 1.5m from bottom
iv. Providing sand above the hard strata of depth 0.9 m
v. PPC of thickness 100 mm over the sand is provided
vi. Raft foundation is provided of thickness 560mm

Construction of WBM Road :-


- Total length of the road of 4800 + 200 m.
- This road is provided two way traffic having single lane
- It is interlinked from Hudkeshwar road to Matkazari road.

Material used :-

- Bitumen
- Course aggregate
- Murum
- Metal dust
Procedure :-
i. The excavation of road is done with width 6.5m.
ii. The compaction is done in two ways, first is dry compaction and then
water compaction.
iii. The layer of GSB is provided after the compaction of murrum.
iv. After the compaction of GSB layer the grade 1 layer is provided.
v. Grade 2 layer is provided after the compaction of grade 1 layer.
vi. After the compaction of grade 2 the MPM (modified penetrated macadam)
layer is provided.
vii. Up to this level the construction has done .then finishing layer is provided
on this road.

Road Widening :-
- Hudkeshwar road to Matkazari road construction include widening of existing
road.
- Location :- MDR 35 Hudkeshwar – Matkazari Road CH 8 to CH 14.
- Length of existing road 5.5 km.
- It has to extend up to 7 m (ie. 0.75m on each side).

Material used :-

- Bitumen
- Course aggregate
- Metal dust

Procedure :-
i. Cleaning of existing road.
ii. Layer of 40 mm size of aggregate.
iii. After that it is compacted by roller.
iv. Bitumen spreading with dose of 1.5 kg/m².
v. Another 20 mm size of aggregate and compacted.
vi. Spreading of 10 mm size of aggregate and bitumen spray.
vii. Spreading of Dense Bitumen Macadam of thickness 50 mm.
viii. Spreading of Bitumen carpet of thickness 20 mm.
