Mixed Reality (MR) Training Simulators

Abstract
MR training simulators represent a fundamental change in professional training for
fields critical in surgery, engineering, or mechanics. Merging the tangible with the intangible,
applications such as simulators can enable fully immersive environments with real conditions
to allow one to practice processes and tasks more complex than mere procedures. MR
simulators employ advanced technologies, such as AR and VR to offer a first-hand learning
environment that promotes practice, accuracy, and decision making under real scenarios. MR
simulators in surgical training allow professionals to practice complex maneuvers, which they
can perfect without risking mistakes on the real case. Similarly, engineers and mechanics can
use this simulator to simulate system designs and troubleshoot a machine, enhancing
assembly techniques while working in an environment that still feels very haptic. Key features
include live feedback, metrics of performance, and scenario modeling, all serving to optimize
training and make more effective assessment easier.
One of the major benefits of adopting MR training simulators is the low operational costs and
minimal material wastage, thereby providing a safe learning environment. Additionally, it
helps in achieving sustainable training models by eliminating the use of real prototypes or
cadavers in medical training. Through the connection of theory and practice, MR training
simulators redefine professional development into safer, competent practices in industries.
