BREAKDOWN OF READING CULTURE IS A SNAKE ON THE

PLANE.
Targeting it should go harder – academic quality is backsliding,
this is happening under our noses.
Reading, after teaching, this is where everything happen in
academic. From what teachers do for us to what we can do for
ourselves. So, chose side with reading culture that will be symbolic
important.
“If you leave yourself, you live in vain”.

PRESS CONFERENCE
EDUCATION
BY MUSA “MY LAST”
Welcome to press conference where we bring in-
depth interview with educationist across the nation.
A delightful educationist who threat individual with
dignity and respect believes we should voice deep
concern for the sustenance of education. Because
education is an incredible builder of society. Hence we
should try to grind out a new support for it, that is a key
to our education flourishing.
Today, is no misery why our academic quality is
poor. Breakdown of reading culture, academic quality is
the boxing ring. The effect is not harder to read.
Breakdown of reading culture, consequently poor
academic quality has jumped in severity.
The challenge is sharper and greater, this is a new
moment but despite the challenge, if we work together
more effectively, we will push back the impulse - Let
respond to the aspiration. Academic quality is the trust of
education. We have to share the analysis because this is
really shacking the trust we have for education - This is
mind boggling!
We should fall a reading culture for academic quality.
If we don’t do, who will? So there should be warn words of
support.
Breaking down of reading culture / poor academic
quality is not our true self. The structure need to use
dismantled.
Joining me to discuss this pressing issue Mr. Mejida
Wumane Kpanachi, HOS Admin Bassa Local Government
Education Authority, Kogi state.
Mr. Kpanachi you are welcome to this interview.
Thank you, glad to be here.
Please can we go through your background briefly?
I was born on March 28, 1966 at Kpokudu in Bassa
Local Government Area of Kogi State. I attended RCM
primary school Sheria in Bassa L.G.A. Between 1973 and
1978. Between 1982 1986 I was at G.T.C Delkina. From
there I went to College of Education Ankpa for my N.C.E
programme. After that, I went to University of Ilorin
between 1998 and 2001 to read B.A English Education.
I started teaching in 1988 as a class teacher but in
1992 I was move to the office. By 2016, I was made to
open Bassa Model Secondary School hence became the
pioneer principal. I was there up to April 2021 when I was
appointed as HOS Admin.
The bigger story today in education is that
breakdown of reading culture is selling itself as a
super hero in the destruction of quality education,
what is your feeling?
Sincerely today, our children don’t give attention to
reading. I think the major cause is the use of G.S.M much
focus now is their phones. They use it to answer whatever
assignment given to them. They fail to understand the
fact that whatever information they get from phone is
shallow, It is not as details as those gotten from
textbooks. I want to tell them straight away that textbook
is the rightful way for them to go.
I remember when I was the Principal of Bassa Model
Secondary School, my major concern was textbooks.
When I was the principal of Bassa Model Secondary
school my major concern was textbooks. When I give you
Admission, you must come with required textbooks for all
subjects. Look, if I’m to be made as a commissioner
education today, I will make the issue of textbooks
compulsory throughout the state - students will go back
to reading culture.
The legacy I left in Bassa Model Secondary School is
still running. You can’t attended the school without
textbooks.
Overall I am not happy in a situation where if you ask
a student certain question, he/she can’t give you
adequate answer. We have to overcome this situation.
The world is about living a comfortable life can
that be possible without education?
Life is not complete without education. Giving the
advancement in technology, we need education that is
workable - Education is development. Today, for instance,
you need education to apply chemicals in farm or at
home. The use of tractor on the farm requires education,
these are many more.
What are the main tools in fighting poor academic
quality?
Majorly a large number of our school do not have
library, supply of textbooks encourages students to read
instead of concentrating on handsets.
Another thing is that parents should encourage their
wards to read at home. This I do it with my children.
Principals and headmasters should equally
encourage reading while students/pupils are in the school
instead of killing time.
A pivotal educationist. What will you do that
you will warm us further into the fight for quality
education?
First, teachers should be committed to their job. They
should think and act in a way that their performance
should commensurate with what they are taking.

Secondly, government should be committed to what

it supposed to offer to educational sectors.
Thirdly, parents should have a willing attitude
towards the education of their children.
With all these, things will turn around.
Teachers should start a leading role, that is
what I want us to take away from this discussion -
Your comment?
Yes, teachers words is the one we know in this effort
to bring back reading culture hence and restore academic
quality. Our education has suffered fatigue from its.
Government has the power and capacity halt it. After all,
negotiation is the duty of a patriot. If teachers I
motivated, they can honestly play a leading role - they
are the central pillar in provision of academic quality.
You have the capacity to influence this change
giving your position in this L.G.A.
That is correct, I go out to schools from time to time
to check performances of teachers. Those not in tune, I
invite them to my office. I correct them and give them
advice so that they can be back to track, Sometimes I
encourage them and really, that increases their
performances even though payment of salary is poor,
they put that behind and perform to expectation.
Teachers, government, parents and students
should put their services into this stony in order
for us to get out of this rusting situation - your
comment?
I agree with this statement, with cooperation you can
easily achieve your aim - the situation will change
throughout the country.
Teachers, a dedicated hardworking
professionals are the pride of the world, what do
you say?
Yes, the makers of all professionals - they are ever
serious with their duty. If you go to some of the offices,
in other departments, you may not see officers concern
but in education sector, we are always around.
You have occupied various positions in this
L.G.A can you highlight your achievements?
Firstly, I have contributed to the existence of this
office.
Secondly, Bassa Model Secondary School as the
pioneer principal there - quality academic is still in
existence.
Again the Model Primary School which I was the
pioneer head teacher is standing tall today.
Finally, some teachers got to certain positions
because of my challenge.
A reform educationist, I think this L.G.A and the state
at large will never forget your grand breaking
achievements.
Thank you very much for your thought.
Thank you sir, I appreciate.
