Ecosystem
QuickBooks Online Accountant and QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks Online Accountant is your route into QuickBooks. What you see will be determined by the permissions that you have been granted.
The primary admin role has access to all areas—including the free QuickBooks Online Advanced account to manage the firm’s account—but the
majority of accounting pros will just see the features they need to manage their client work and access their clients’ QuickBooks Online accounts.
Always make sure to access your clients’ QuickBooks accounts through QuickBooks Online Accountant, as it unlocks the accounting pro
only tools and features.
The structure of QuickBooks Online
The data within QuickBooks is arranged in different areas called centers. The four main centers you’re likely to use most are:
• Transactions—where you can see the data coming in from your client’s bank accounts and match it to corresponding QuickBooks transactions.
This is covered in the Banking course.
• Sales—where products and services are set up, and customer information is stored. This is covered in the Sales and customers course.
• Expenses—where outgoing payments, vendors, and contractors are managed. This is covered in the Expenses and vendors course.
• Reports—where you can access ready-made financial statements and create customized reports. Reports are covered throughout all courses.
Relevant to all centers, the backbone of QuickBooks is the chart of accounts. It should be set up to match the client’s business, and all transactions
should be categorized to the correct account to ensure the profit and loss statement and balance sheet are accurate and meaningful.
