taken at the time of cement loading in Silos by using proper pipe
connection.
HOW THE WORKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT :
The Dry Lean Concrete will be laid by sensor Paver to the required
level , grade and compaction over Granular Sub Base ( GSB ). Levels &
density of GSB will be checked and got approved by the Engineer. DLC
will be laid in the following steps :-
I) Establishment of the string line
1. The string line will be of 2 to 4 mm dia. steel wire rope / Piano wire
type.
2. The stakes used will be of mild steel and of adequate length for
necessary adjustment of string line
3. The stakes will be placed in vertical position outside the hub line given
by The surveyor.
4. Stakes will be placed in GSB by inserting/hammering.
5. Levels will be given directly on the level stakes. The string line is
placed in to the holder cum slot and tightened with the help of
winches.
6. The string line support (stakes) will be placed at 10m intervals both in
straight and curve alignment.
7. Another side of paving lane , levels will be marked on a steel rods at
every 10 m.
8. Hand winch will be used to tighten the string line to avoid any sagging,
these winch will be placed for the full length of days paving.
5
9. Prior to the beginning of paving, the string line will be checked again
by the survey team.
II) Preparation for Paving :
1. The top surface of GSB will be cleaned using suitable means to remove
loose and unsuitable material.
2. If there are loose spots in GSB layer , it shall be rectified &
recompacted after sprinkling water.
3. Paving lanes will be marked by lime powder.
4. If DLC paving is to be done from/along previously laid DLC, then
transverse/longitudinal joint will be cut manually across the entire
width/length of earlier layer adjacent to the layer to be paved.
5. 125 Plastic sheet will be placed on the GSB surface before DLC
paving.
III). Paving Process :
1. DLC will be paved in two phases of 4.55M each lane so that the
longitudinal joints of DLC & PQC will be staggered as per the
requirement of MOST specification .
2. The fresh concrete as per the design mix & specification will be
supplied by dump trucks /TATRA to the paving site from the batching
plant.
3. The concrete will be unloaded directly into the hopper of Paver.
4. After receiving the concrete the paver will be operated and its sensor
arm will travel over string line to achieve accurate levels .
5. The auger fitted in the paver will spread concrete uniformly in front of
the screed unit of paver.
6. Screed with tamping arrangement will spread the concrete in level
which will be kept / maintained higher than the required compacted
level to allow for compaction.
7. The uncompacted thickness of the DLC will be maintained taking into
account the compaction factor observed during trial stretch laying .
8. Level of uncompacted DLC will be measured with the help of string &
tape behind the paver and paver will be adjusted by the adjustment of
sensor accordingly.
IV). Rolling:
1. Machinery name- Double drum smooth- wheeled vibratory Tandem
rollers will be used for DLC rolling.
2. Initially one pass of rolling will be done without vibration to bed the
lean concrete down ,which is known as breakdown rolling.
3. After the preliminary pass of rolling , vibratory rolling will start from the
lower edge and will proceed towards the upper edge in the transverse
direction.
6
4. The numbers of passes required to obtain maximum compaction will be
decided based on the results of the trial stretch.
5. Levels of compacted DLC will be checked with the help of string &
measuring tape .
6. Any rectification required will be made by scraping the DLC surface &
spreading 10mm down fresh concrete material and then compacting
the same.
7. The last / final pass of rolling will a plane pass to remove roller marks
and to smoothen the surface.
8. Field density check shall be carried out to ensure the proper
compaction.
V). Covering & Curing :
1. After the final compaction , DLC surface will be covered with hessian
cloth.
2. Hessian cloth will be kept moist by sprinkling water for seven days.
3. Initial 2 days hessian cloth will be kept wet by watering, supplied
through long hose connected from water pump fitted to the water
tanker which will be moving by the side of DLC surface. .
4. Remaining 5 days hessian cloth will be kept wet by sprinkling water
directly on the DLC surface.
5. The concrete will be kept covered for seven days after which PQC
paving will follow.
VI). Surveying :
1. Level survey at the grid points specified in the MOST specification will
be carried out.
2. DLC surface will be got approved by the Engineer after the survey &
field density checks.
VII). Communication
1. The communication in between the paving team , Batching plant ,P & M
workshop ,QC lab and other relative set ups will be effectively
organized by using wireless sets.
