Speaker 1:
Good morning/afternoon everyone. Today, we want to talk about something that’s become a huge part
of our everyday lives: social media. It’s everywhere—on our phones, in our schools, and even in our
conversations. But is social media truly helping us, or is it holding us back?

Speaker 2:
Let’s start with the positives. Social media has made it easier than ever to stay connected with friends
and family, even when they’re far away. We can share photos, videos, and life updates instantly. And
for many, it’s a way to keep up with the latest news and trends around the world. It’s also given a
platform to those who may not have had a voice otherwise, allowing them to share their stories and
experiences.

Speaker 1:
Exactly. Social media can be a powerful tool for raising awareness about important issues, organizing
events, and even supporting small businesses. It’s also been a great space for creativity, where people
can share their art, music, and ideas with the world. But with all these benefits, we have to recognize
that there’s a flip side too.

Speaker 2:
That’s right. One of the biggest concerns with social media is its impact on our mental health. Studies
have shown that constant exposure to the “highlight reels” of others’ lives can lead to feelings of
inadequacy and low self-esteem. We often find ourselves comparing our behind-the-scenes moments
with everyone else’s best moments.

Speaker 1:
And then there’s the issue of time. How many of us have found ourselves scrolling through our feeds
for hours, without even realizing it? It’s easy to lose track of time, and before you know it, you’ve
spent the whole evening looking at posts. This can take away time from things that are truly
important, like studying, spending time with family, or pursuing hobbies.

Speaker 1:
And let’s not forget about misinformation. While social media makes it easy to access information, it
also makes it just as easy for false information to spread. This can lead to misunderstandings and even
conflicts among people who believe different things.

Speaker 2:
So, where do we go from here? Should we just stop using social media altogether? Not necessarily. It’s
about finding a balance. Using social media mindfully can help us enjoy its benefits without falling
into its traps. Setting limits on screen time, curating what we see, and remembering that social media
doesn’t show the whole picture can make a big difference.

Speaker 2:
In the end, social media is just a tool—one that we can use for good or for bad. It’s up to us to decide
how we use it. So let’s try to focus on the positives, be aware of the negatives, and remember to live
our lives beyond the screen.

Both Speakers Together:

Thank you for listening, and we hope our talk gave you something to think about when it comes to
social media!
