1. The figure shows the per-phase equivalent circuit of a two-pole three-phase induction motor
operating at 50 Hz. The “air–gap” voltage is 210 V (rms), and the slip S is 0.05. Calculate
the torque in Nm produced by the motor.
[ Ans: 401.66 Nm]
2. A 3-phase, 10kW, 400 V, 4 pole, 50 Hz, star-connected induction motor draws 20A on full
load. Its no load and blocked rotor test data are:
No load test: 400 V 6A 1002 W
Blocked rotor test: 90 V 15 A 762 W
Neglecting copper losses in the No load test and core losses in the Blocked rotor test,
estimate the motors' full load efficiency.
[ Ans: 81 %]
3. A 50 hp, 6 pole, 50 Hz slip ring induction motor runs at 960 rpm on full load with a rotor
current of 40 A. Allowing 300 W for the copper loss in the short-circuiting gear and 1200
W for mechanical losses, find the resistance R2 per phase of the 3-phase rotor winding.
[ Ans: 0.271 ohm/ph]
4. A 3-phase induction motor having a 6-pole, star-connected stator winding runs on 240 V,
50 Hz supply. The rotor resistance and standstill reactance are 0.12 ohm and 0.85 ohm per
phase. The ratio of the stator to rotor turns is 1.8. full load slip is 4%.
Calculate the developed torque at full load, maximum torque, and speed at maximum
torque.
[ Ans: 52.4 Nm, 99.9 Nm, 860 rpm]
