UNIT 7: EDUCATION OPTIONS FOR SCHOOL-LEAVERS


Lesson 3: READING: Options for school-leavers
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Knowledge:
- Develop the skills of reading for gist and for details about the educational journey.
2. Competences:
- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and group work;
- Involve actively in class activities.
3. Personal qualities:
- Acknowledge and be able to apply the ideas from the text, and modify that idea for your
answer;
- Develop self-study and give your own opinion.
II. PROCEDURES:
1. LEAD-IN:
a. Objectives:
- Engage Ss in the lesson;
- Set the context for the reading part;
- Develop skills of brainstorming and discussion with classmates.
b. Content:
- Brainstorming: Which of the two options for school-leavers is common in your city?
c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss can work out as many ideas as possible to discuss the question.
d. Organization:

- Ss can use key language to help them to understand the passage in order to give possible
answers for the questions.

- Task 3: Read the article again. Match the heading (1-3) with the paragraphs (A-B).

c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss can grasp the content of the reading and complete the tasks successfully.

- Ask and answer with friends surrouding Ss, using the question in task 5:
Which of the ideas in task 4 do you like most? How will it help preserve heritage?
c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss can give short answer with the ideas from task 4 to discuss and give their own
opinion.
d. Organization:

TEACHER’S AND STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES CONTENTS

- T has Ss work in groups of four or five students. Ss’ own ideas.


Ask them to discuss the question which will be
shown on the screen and explain their choice.

- T encourages Ss to express their ideas because


there are no right or wrong answers.

- T invites 3 to 4 Ss to express their idea to the


whole class

5. CONSOLIDATION:
- T asks Ss to talk some ways to preserve the heritage sites provided in the passage, based
on their memory;
