UNIT 7: EDUCATION OPTIONS FOR SCHOOL-LEAVERS
Lesson 2: LANGUAGE: Completing your education
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Knowledge:
- Gain the overview about the topic Education options after leaving school;
- Gain the meaning of words and phrases related to the topic in a context;
- Gain in-depth knowledge of the language aspect: Perfect gerunds and Perfecct participle
clause.
2. Competences:
- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and group work;
- Involve actively in class activities.
3. Personal qualities:
- Be awared of their choice after leaving school;
- Express the opinion upon education options for school-leavers ;
II. PROCEDURES:
1. WARM-UP:
a. Objectives:
- Engage Ss in the topic Education options after leaving school and stir up the
atmosphere;
- Lead in the key words and phrases;
- Stay collaborative and communicative in activities.
b. Content:
- Game: Job chain
c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss use their own knowledge to write down as many jobs as possible
- Get themselves involved in the lesson
d. Organization:

- T gives Ss a set of rules of the game and briefly
explain. Wordlist on the slide:
police, lawyer, judge, soldier,
- Working in 4 groups, Ss write as many jobs as doctor, nurse, medic, vet, teacher,
possible start; principal, janitor, coach, driver,
manager, chef, actor
- T randomly picks the name of the job
- S listens and circles when hearing the job. If they
achieve 4 consecutive circles in a row, a column
or a diagonal, their group wins the game.
2. ACTIVITY 1: PRESENTATION:
a. Objectives:
- Get Ss learn words and phrases related to the topic.
b. Content:
- Pre-teach vocabulary related to the content of the dialogue.
- Task 3
c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss can use key language more appropriately before reading.

3. ACTIVITY 2: PRACTICE
a. Objectives:
- Get Ss skim the text decide True or False for each statement.
- Get Ss scan the given phrase and read for details
- Help Ss identify the gerunds or participle clause.
b. Content:
Task 2: Read the conversation again. Decide whether the following statements are true
(T) or false (F) (p. 77)
Task 4: Complete the sentences using phrases from Task 1 (p. 77)
c. Expected outcomes:
- Ss can grasp the content of the dialogue and complete the tasks successfully.

Task 2: Read the conversation again. Decide whether the following statements are

- Ss can give short answer with some words and information about heritage sites.
d. Organization:

- T sends a hand-out with some questions to
introduce the place (Where is it?, What is the most
thing about the place?, What can we do there?);
- T gives sample answers, using the words and
information from the text
- Work in pairs, Ss ask and answer the questions in
7 minutes;
- T invites 3 to 4 pairs to share their speeches with
the class.
- T listens to the answer and gives them some
feedbacks
5. CONSOLIDATION:
- T asks Ss to talk some information about the heritage sites , based on their memory;
- Review the vocabulary and To-infinitive.
