JFK’s Assassination
By: Matthew Benda
Dear Reader,
When this project was first announced to me, I immediately knew what I
wanted to do. I have always had a weird obsession with the JFK assassination. All
the conspiracy theories and mystery made me want to dig deeper. I looked deeper
and deeper, and then I stumbled upon a conspiracy theory that Jaqueline killed
her husband. I knew that it could not be true, but I had to find more information,
and that was when I got hooked.
There are a lot of conspiracy theories around JFK’s assassination, including
that the CIA did, that the mafia did it, and even Joe DiMaggio hired Lee Harvey
Oswald. But for this paper, I wanted to just focus on the facts. It was hard to find
a transcript of Walter Cronkite’s broadcast, but I knew that it had to be in this
paper. When I found it, I was so relieved. It was also hard to figure out some of
the citations. But in the end, I had I lot of fun writing, and putting together this
paper, and I hope you enjoy it.
Sincerely,
Matthew Benda

The Fall of Camelot (JFK Assassination)

Three shots rang out from the book depository,
Or maybe that's what we've all been told,
This skewered account; or so goes their story
That day the president was assassinated so cold.
Picture from moments after Kennedy was shot is placed at the Present Day Dealey Plaza.
The first shot missed him as it hit the pavement
The motorcade cops thought it was a backfire incident.
But the next three rounds found their mark so easily
Watching through two rifle scopes with sure delivery.

Dallas, Nov. 22--President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was shot and killed by an
assassin today.
He died of a wound in the brain caused by a rifle bullet that was fired at him as he
was riding through downtown Dallas in a motorcade.
Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson, who was riding in the third car behind Mr.
Kennedy's, was sworn in as the 36th President of the United States 99 minutes
after Mr. Kennedy's death.
Mr. Johnson is 55 years old; Mr. Kennedy was 46.
Shortly after the assassination, Lee H. Oswald, who once defected to the Soviet
Union and who has been active in the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, was arrested
by the Dallas police. Tonight he was accused of the killing.
As Jackie tried to retrieve a piece of skull out on the trunk
While six secret service agents rushed with spit and spunk.
Jacqueline Kennedy: I was looking…to the left, and I heard these terrible noises.
And my husband never made any sound. So I turned to the right. And all I
remember is seeing my husband, he had this sort of quizzical look on his face, and
his hand was up, it must have been his left hand. And just as I turned and looked
at him, I could see a piece of his skull and I remember it was flesh colored. I
remember thinking he just looked as if he had a slight headache. And I just
remember seeing that. No blood or anything. And then he sort of…put his hand to
his forehead and fell in my lap. And then I just remember falling on him and
saying, "Oh, no, no, no!" I mean: "Oh, my God! They have shot my husband!" And
"I love you, Jack!" I remember I was shouting. And just being down in the car with
his head in my lap. And it just seemed an eternity.
You know, then, there were pictures later on of me climbing out the back. But I
don’t remember that at all.

Dear Diary,
I just witnessed one of the most tragic events in my lifetime, JFK’s
assassination.
The day started like any other. While at work, I heard the radio, talk about
the president coming to Dallas and I knew I had to see him. When my lunch break
came, I immediately rushed to Dealey Plaza, thinking that would be the least
crowded place. That was the worst decision of my life.
I was in the back of a huge crowd when I saw the president’s motorcade come
into view. I knew I had to find a spot where I could see him clearly, so I headed
towards the grassy knoll nearby. This provided me with a perfect viewpoint, and I
knew, I had to take a picture. I readied my camera, but hesitated when I heard a
loud BANG! Everyone just assumed it was a backfire, but within seconds, there
was another BANG! At that point, I knew something was wrong. Finally, there
was one more BANG, and in hesitation, I took a picture. I didn’t know what I had
taken a picture of, but I had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be good. I was so
scared after the shots that I ducked down in preparation for another, just has the
motorcade headed for the hospital. I knew that I had to get home and develop this
photo as fast as I could.
When I got home, I immediately started to develop the photo. It seemed to
take hours, to develop. When it was done, I took a glimpse. I had taken a picture
of the final bullet’s impact into the president’s head. I immediately shredded the
photo and the film into a million. The photo seemed to bring me right back to
Dealey Plaza. I decided to turn the tv on and try to calm myself down. Right away
I saw Walter Cronkite, I and knew something was wrong. He said, “From Dallas,
Texas, the flash, apparently official, President Kennedy died at 1 p.m. Central
Standard Time, 2 o’clock Eastern Standard Time, some 38 minutes ago.” I just
started bawling, and couldn’t stop. That night, I cried myself to sleep.
I will never forget what happened on November 22, 1963.
They rushed him off to Parkland in the chaos; in haste
Jackie knew they had not one single minute to waste,

Mary: “Hello, this is Mary.”
Sarah: “Mom, mom, oh my god, mom!”
Mary: “Sarah, Sarah, calm down. What happened?”
Sarah: “Mom, I just saw John get shot.”
Mary: “Which John Sarah.”
Sarah: “The president. John F. Kennedy, mom.”
Mary: “Oh my god. Where at?”
Sarah: “In, in downtown Dallas. His motorcade was coming through, and then I
heard three gunshots.”
Mary: “Well, is he going to be alright, did it look fatal?”
Sarah: “Mom, I saw his head explode, I don’t think he is going to make it.”
Mary: “Let me check the news and see if there is any information.”
Sarah: “Mom, what are we going to do now, we don’t have a president.”
Mary: “Hold on dear, there is some new news coming on. Oh no. No, no, no.
(Sobbing)”
Sarah: “What is it, mom.”
Mary: “Honey, the president is, he’s dead.”
Sarah: “No, No. (Sobbing)”
Mary: “Well there is some hope honey. Lyndon Johnson is the president now.”
Sarah: “But I liked Kennedy. Why did this have to happen, mom?”
Mary: “I don’t know dear, the world will never be the same after today.”
So when Jack was pronounced dead we all cried
The news around the world said The [Link] died.
Walter Cronkite: “Here is a bulletin from CBS News. In Dallas, Texas, three shots
were fired at President Kennedy’s motorcade in downtown Dallas. The first
reports say that President Kennedy has been seriously wounded by this shooting.
“More details just arrived. These details about the same as previously: President
Kennedy shot today just as his motorcade left downtown Dallas. Mrs. Kennedy
jumped up and grabbed Mr. Kennedy. She called, ‘Oh, no!’ The motorcade sped
on. ...
“Repeating a bulletin from CBS News, President Kennedy has been shot by a
would-be assassin in Dallas, Texas. Stay tuned to CBS News for further details.”

“Further details on the assassination attempt against President Kennedy in
Dallas, Texas. President Kennedy was shot as he drove from Dallas airport to
downtown Dallas. Gov. Connally of Tex0as in the car with him was also shot.
“It was reported that three bullets rang out. A Secret Service man has been, was
heard to shout from the car, ‘He’s dead.’ Whether he referred to President
Kennedy or not is not yet known.
“The president, cradled in the arms of his wife, Mrs. Kennedy, was ... rushed to
Parkland Hospital outside Dallas. ...
“We will keep you advised as more details come in. The incident has taken place
only in the last few minutes in Dallas.
“Stay tuned to CBS News for further details.”
About 2 p.m. EST, Cronkite now seen on camera:
“This is Walter Cronkite in our newsroom. And, there has been an attempt as
perhaps you know now on the life of President Kennedy. He was wounded in an
automobile driving from Dallas airport into downtown Dallas along with Gov.
Connally of Texas. They were taken to Parkland Hospital there where their
condition is as yet unknown. ...”
Over the next half-hour, Cronkite gives new details, repeating the basics as they
are known.
Then, Cronkite on camera:
“From Dallas, Texas, the flash, apparently official, President Kennedy died at 1
p.m. Central Standard Time, 2 o’clock Eastern Standard Time, some 38 minutes
ago. (Voice choking slightly) Vice President Lyndon Johnson has left the hospital
in Dallas, but we do not know to where he has proceeded. Presumably, he will be
taking the oath of office shortly and become the 36th president of the United
States.”
That happened about fifty years ago in a cold November
The assassination of John F. Kennedy we must remember.

DEATH RESULTS IN
UNCOVERED EVIDENCE
There have been many
theories of who was behind
the assassination of John F.
Kennedy, including the mafia,
the CIA, Lyndon B. Johnson,
and even Joe DiMaggio. But
one theory has always stood
out as being very possible.
That theory is the two
shooter. To help this theory,
even more, new evidence
suggests that there was, in
fact, a second shooter
involved in the assassination
of John F. Kennedy. This
comes days after the 100
year anniversary of his tragic
passing. New ballistic
equipment used at the crime
scene, shows fragments of
gunpowder behind the fence
of the now infamous grassy
knoll in Dealey Plaza. This
evidence led investigators to
conclude that there was a
second shooter. Hopefully,
the new evidence can lead
investigators in the right
direction of finding the
second shooter. Matthew
Benda, the current president,
says that this is great news,
and he hopes that the

suspect will be uncovered.

Self-evaluation:
I feel like I had a bunch of good information and genres. I could have
probably written more for my newspaper article, and made it prettier, but it was
really hard to work with. I like the poem I found for my transition. Overall, I feel
really good about my paper.
