• Removal of the existing SW modification label (refer to Paragraph 3.G.)
• Download, replacement, and installation of the AFMS and Pilot’s Guide (refer to
Paragraph 3.H. and Paragraph 3.I.).
(3) The following instructions are presented using a Windows 7 based computer. Use of a
Macintosh computer is not authorized.
B. Preparing the USB Drive
NOTE: The USB drive must be exFAT formatted. This formatting is critical to a successful
loading of the KSN software. The following instructions describe how to format a
USB drive into the exFAT format using Windows 7.
(1) Obtain a 16 GB USB drive (refer to Table 3).
(2) Plug the USB drive into a computer.
(3) Open Windows Explorer.
(a) Click Start.
(b) From the Start menu, click Computer.
(c) Navigate to the USB drive (listed in the navigation pane or under the Devices
with Removable Storage).
(d) Right click on the USB drive and select Format.
(e) Within the Format Removable Disk window, navigate to File System.
(f) From the File System pull down menu, select exFAT.
(g) Under allocation unit size, ensure pull down is set to 32 kilobytes (default),
otherwise set pull down to 32 kilobytes.
(h) Under Format Options, uncheck the box for Quick Format.
(i) Click Start.
(j) A warning message will appear, select OK to begin reformatting.
NOTE: For a 16 GB USB drive, this may take approximately 1 hour to
complete.
(k) A pop-up message will appear when formatting is complete, select OK.
(4) The USB drive formatting is complete, leave the USB drive installed to be loaded
with the KSN 0106 software.
C. Downloading Software from the Dealer Portal and Unzipping to USB Drive
(1) From a computer, launch a Chrome or Firefox web browser and go to
www.bendixking.com.
(2) Log on to the “Dealer Sign-In” (Login ID and Password are required).
(3) Select Unit Software.
(4) Locate KSN 765/770 Software Release 0106 (SW PN 722-20129-0106), on the list of
software and select “Download all files”.
(5) Fill-in the required form data and select "Download".
(6) Insert the 16 GB USB drive, that has been prepared with exFAT formatting (refer to
Paragraph 3.B. for instructions).
(7) Select the downloaded file and double click on the file.
NOTE: The downloaded software is formatted as a self-extracting .zip file that will
unzip the KSN 0106 update software to a specified location.
(8) When prompted for an unzip location, browse to the exFAT formatted USB drive
and click “Unzip”.
(9) Once the 0106 software has been extracted, a folder titled KSN will be placed on the
USB drive.
(10) Eject/Remove the USB drive from the computer and proceed with installing the
software on the KSN 765/770.
D. Installing the KSN 0106 Software on the KSN 765/770
(1) Insert the USB drive that contains the KSN 0106 software in the front USB port
on the KSN 765/770.
(2) Turn on the KSN power.
(3) Wait for the KSN to boot the Update Tool.
NOTE: All status screens have a progress bar at the bottom of the screen (except
the black background power cycle screen). The update tool will allow the
software update to be aborted until the “Power Off Now to Abort” message
is removed. To abort prior to the start of load, power off the KSN.
(4) The Update Loader initializes and searches for IOP files and checks if CRCs are valid.
While the loader is initializing, the message displayed will state, “Do NOT Remove the
Flash Drive or Power”.
(5) The Update Loader will update all of the IOP images and will show “IOP UPDATE
IN PROGRESS”.
NOTE: If a file is not present, a “Failed to Find” message will be displayed with
status for the file on the screen.
(6) Once the IOP update is complete, the IOP status will be displayed and the MPC
update will begin. The message on the loader will show “IOP Update Completed,
MPC Update Started”.
(7) The loader will verify that all CRCs have passed and after a few seconds the screen
will flash black and the Update Loader will begin initializing the MPC update.
(8) The screen will go black for a second and then the Update Tool will display MPC1 and
MPC2 status data and flash “MPC UPDATE IN PROGRESS”.
(9) Once the update is complete you will be instructed to cycle power for the CRCs.
NOTE: The USB drive needs to remain installed.
(10) Once power is cycled, during the reboot process the Update Loader will go into
Output CRC mode.
(11) When the reboot process is complete, the Update Loader will instruct you to remove
the USB Drive. Record the CRC values in Table 4 and verify these values against
those provided below.
Table 4. KSN 0106 Software CRC Values

(12) Once you have recorded the CRC values, follow the instructions on the Update
Loader to cycle power.
(13) The KSN 0106 software installation is complete, refer to the sections below for
confirming the loaded software and troubleshooting any possible errors.
E. Confirmation of KSN 0106 Software Load
(1) Once the software update has completed and power has been cycled on the unit, the
part numbers may be verified on the System Info Page which is accessible using the
following steps:
(a) Access the System Info Page
1 Press R1 (OK) to clear the splash screen.
2 Press the MENU page select key.
3 Using the right-hand joystick, rotate the knob clockwise and select
Menu Page 6/6.
1 Per Table 5, verify the part numbers for flight software components
loaded match the expected values:
(1) Use permanent black marking material to identify the MOD (MOD 1 for the KSN 765
and MOD 2 for the KSN 770).
(1) Remove the existing Software Modification label that is affixed to the back of the unit.
Refer to Figure 2 as an example of the sticker that will be removed.
NOTE: Refer to this section if any errors are observed during the software load onto the unit.
(1) Invalid USB Drive
(a) If the USB drive is not present or pulled out during the Update Loader update
countdown then you will be prompted to “Insert Valid Flash Drive” containing
the update files.
(2) IOP CRC Error
(a) If an IOP Update file fails the CRC check then you have two options: (1) abort
the update, or (2) remove the USB drive and reload all of the files on the USB
drive per the procedures described above. The loading procedure can then
be restarted from Paragraph 3.D. (Installing the KSN 0106 Software on
the KSN 765/770).
(3) IOP Update Error
(a) When the IOP update has completed and an IOP Update Error occurred, then
you will see the final IOP Update Status and be requested to power cycle
the unit.
(b) If this occurs, please record the values for each of the five files listed, copy
the Install.log (found in the KSN directory of the USB drive), and contact
BendixKing for assistance.
(4) IOP Timeout Error
(a) If the update timer expires, then the IOP Timeout Error screen will be displayed.
Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle power and re-attempt the update.
(5) MPC CRC Error
(a) If a CRC error occurs in either MPC file the following will be displayed.
