VERVE’24
The VERVE Opening Ceremony took place on the evening of August 30,
2024, at the Common Amphitheater of BIT Mesra, marking the beginning
of an exciting chapter for the campus. Attended by students, faculty, and
distinguished guests, the event featured inspiring speeches, cultural
performances, and a vibrant atmosphere of enthusiasm.

Dignitaries such as Dr. Bhaskar Karn (Dean of Student Affairs), Dr.


Yogender Aggarwal (Assistant Dean), Dr. L.N. Pattanaik (Faculty Advisor),
and guest speaker Mitrajit Chowdhury (Industrial management expert)
shared insights on holistic growth, leadership, and creativity.

Key highlights included:


• Lighting of the Lamp, symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment.
• Speeches, emphasizing extracurricular growth and career insights.
• Club Performances, featuring Litsoc’s literary showcase, SPIC MACAY’s
cultural dances, and Ehsaas’ impactful mime act.
• Vote of Thanks, appreciating organizers, participants, and guests.

The event was a resounding success, uniting the BIT Mesra community in
a celebration of talent, culture, and innovation, setting the stage for future
VERVE initiatives.
VERVE’24
Workshop
Hands-On ANSYS and OpenFOAM
Date: August 31, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Speaker: Dr. Bishwajit Sharma, Post-Doctoral Fellow, Aerospace Engineering, IIT Bombay
Organized by: SIME, BIT Mesra
Key Highlights:
Importance: Participants were enlightened about the need for
simulation software like ANSYS and OpenFoam in solving
modern-day problems.
Steps Involved: Focus was laid on the major steps required in
learning the software which included Geometry Creation,
choosing a suitable mesh for the design and performing
simulations.
Post-Processing: Lastly, methods for analyzing and interpreting
results were introduced and the stage was open for discussions.
Attendance: Approximately 52 students attended this workshop.
Outcome: Hands-on experience with ANSYS and OpenFOAM was Dr. Bishwajit Sharma
provided, equipping participants with essential simulation skills
used in industry.

PIZZA CUBE
As part of Verve’24, we conducted Pizza Cube, an exciting and engaging
event that tested participants’ knowledge, analytical skills, and quick
thinking. The competition was structured in two challenging rounds.
Event Structure:

Round 1: Rapid-Fire Quiz:


Participants faced a fast-paced quiz covering general knowledge,
business insights, and supply chain-related topics. Speed and accuracy
were key to progressing to the nextround.

Round 2: Three Exciting Sections

Analytics Challenge: Participants analyzed data to draw insights and


make strategic decisions.

Case Study: Teams worked on real-world scenarios, applying


criticalthinking and problem-solving skills.

Fun Segment – Food & States: A lighthearted section where contestants


matched differentfoods to their respective Indian states. To celebrate the
winners' efforts and achievements, we distributed gift hampers, making
the event even more memorable!
VERVE’24
Treasure Hunt – VERVE 2024 (Day 3)

The Treasure Hunt at VERVE 2024 was a thrilling test of strategy,


teamwork, and problem-solving, turning BIT Mesra into a battlefield of
wits. Teams of 3-5 members raced across campus, solving clue-based
riddles and challenges to uncover the final treasure.
Total of 91 teams participated. Approx 250+ participants.

The event began with a brain teaser to determine team starting positions,
followed by a series of strategically placed clues leading to different
campus locations. Teams had to crack riddles, solve logical puzzles, and
complete physical challenges while navigating decoy clues and time-
bound tasks. The final showdown pushed participants to their limits
before revealing the ultimate treasure.

The top three teams received prizes, with special mentions for creativity
and fastest solvers at the closing ceremony. The Treasure Hunt was a
memorable adventure, showcasing intellect, endurance, and collaboration,
perfectly capturing the spirit of VERVE.
PRIZE DISTRIBUTION
ANVIL
Society for Industrial Management and Engineering successfully hosted
Anvil on 5th October’2024 from 09:00 AM - 01:30 PM, a technical event
designed to test participants’ knowledge of industries, market trends, and
innovation. With 40+ teams and a footfall of over 150 students, the event
provided a dynamic platform for technical expertise and entrepreneurial
thinking.

Event Highlights:
• Round 1: Technical Quiz – Participants tackled questions on industry
trends, market behavior, and emerging technologies.
• Round 2: Idea Pitching – Teams developed and pitched product ideas
to a panel of judges, evaluated on uniqueness, feasibility, market
potential, and relevance.

With enthusiastic participation and insightful feedback from judges, Anvil


was a resounding success, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and
technical excellence while setting high expectations for future editions.
SHERLOCKED
Society for Industrial Management and Engineering (SIME), BIT Mesra,
successfully hosted Sherlocked on 13th March’24 during BITOTSAV’24, a
team-based competition designed to challenge participants’ problem-
solving abilities, teamwork, and logical reasoning. The event attracted 50+
teams and a footfall of over 200 students, creating an intellectually
stimulating and competitive atmosphere.

Event Highlights:
• Round 1: Knowledge & Aptitude Quiz – A quiz assessing participants’
understanding of cultures, aptitude, and logical reasoning, encouraging
critical thinking.
• Round 2: QR Code Hunt & Lock-and-Key Challenge – Teams navigated
a series of hidden clues while solving strategic challenges that required
observation, problem-solving, and coordination.

The event’s innovative format and enthusiastic participation made


Sherlocked a resounding success, reinforcing the importance of analytical
skills, teamwork, and strategic thinking while setting a high standard for
future editions.

SIME broke down the intricate world of supply chain management into an engaging
video series, making it easy for everyone to grasp the flow of goods, services, and
logistics like never before.

STUDY PHASE
TOPIC: SUPPLY CHAIN AND MANAGEMENT

During the summer session break, Sagar Rangi led a one-and-a-half-month Supply Chain Study Phase, providing
SIME K23 members with in-depth knowledge of supply chain management. The structured program included
weekly classes, covering both fundamental and advanced concepts.

Key Highlights:
Comprehensive Curriculum: Topics included logistics, demand forecasting, planning, transportation,
warehouse, and inventory management.
Quizzes & Assessments: Regular evaluations reinforced learning and tested participants’ understanding.
Presentations & Discussions: Students created and presented PPTs, fostering collaborative learning and
enhancing presentation skills.

The program was highly successful, equipping participants with theoretical knowledge and practical insights into
supply chain operations. Its structured approach and interactive learning methods were widely appreciated,
inspiring students to explore further opportunities in the field.
LEARNING UNIT
Video Editing Learning phase
A video editing training program was initiated on October 20, 2024, led
by Honey Vardhan and Himanshu Pandya, under the guidance of Arijit
Basu, to introduce K24 batch students to the fundamentals of video
editing. Participants were guided through software downloads and
provided with curated YouTube playlists for various editing platforms.
Assignments were given, reviewed, and doubts were clarified in group
discussions, fostering a collaborative learning environment. The K24 batch
has shown promising progress in their initial phase, demonstrating a
strong aptitude for video editing.

Society for Industrial Management and Engineering recently had the
honor of interviewing two of its strongest pillars, whose dedication
shaped the club’s vision. The first interview featured Shivansh Bhaiya,
taken by Utkarsh Sinha on January 18th from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. The second
interview was with Vibhanshu Bhaiya, taken by Rahul Kumar from 9:45PM
to 11 PM on January 21st.

Both of them played a key role in defining the club’s direction, sharing
their experiences and insights that continue to inspire members. The
interviews will be available on YouTube by mid-March, offering a glimpse
