POLLUTION

WHAT IS POLLUTION?

Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful
materials are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural, such as volcanic ash.

Introduction:

Environmental pollution is a growing problem worldwide, with significant consequences for

human health, biodiversity and quality of life. This report aims to analyze pollution in its
various forms, identify its main causes and effects, and propose measures to mitigate and
prevent its negative impacts.

Specific objectives:

Identify the main sources and types of environmental pollution.

Analyze the effects of pollution on human health and ecosystems.

Evaluate existing measures to control pollution and propose new effective strategies.

Promote public awareness about the importance of reducing pollution and encouraging
sustainable practices.

Theoretical framework:

Environmental pollution can manifest itself in various forms, such as air, water, soil, noise and
light pollution. Each type of pollution has its own sources and adverse effects.

Air pollution: Caused by the emission of harmful gases and particles from sources such as
vehicles, industries and the burning of fossil fuels. Air pollutants can cause respiratory
problems, cardiovascular diseases and contribute to climate change.

Water pollution: Caused by the discharge of industrial, agricultural and domestic waste into
bodies of water. This can contaminate drinking water sources and damage aquatic ecosystems,
affecting biodiversity and human health.

Soil pollution: Results from the deposition of toxic waste, agricultural chemicals and illegal
landfills. Soil contamination can reduce soil fertility, contaminate crops, and affect human
health through the ingestion of contaminated food.
Noise pollution: Produced by human activities such as vehicular traffic, construction and
industry. Excessive noise can cause stress, sleep disorders and hearing loss, as well as
disturbing wildlife and disrupting natural ecosystems.

Light pollution: Arises from the excessive and inappropriate use of artificial lighting in urban
and rural areas. Light pollution can interfere with the natural rhythms of day and night, affect
the migration of nocturnal birds, and decrease astronomical visibility.

Summary:

Environmental pollution is a global problem that threatens human health, biodiversity and the
stability of ecosystems. Air, water, soil, noise and light pollution have multiple causes and
adverse effects, from respiratory diseases to the loss of natural habitats. It is essential to adopt
effective measures to reduce pollution and promote sustainable practices that protect the
environment and the health of future generations.

Conclusion:

Fighting environmental pollution requires a comprehensive approach involving governments,

industries, communities and individual citizens. It is necessary to implement sound
environmental policies, promote clean technologies, improve waste management and
promote environmental education to raise awareness about the impacts of pollution and the
importance of sustainability. By working together, we can mitigate the effects of pollution and
build a cleaner, healthier future for everyone.
