I. Overview
Every night, a whole new world opens to you as the stars come out. The fact is the stars are always in
the sky. We cannot see them during the day because the light of Sun makes Earth’s atmosphere very bright. It
hides the stars. The Sun is a star, too. In fact, it is the closest star to Earth. We cannot see the Sun at night
because as Earth rotates, our part of Earth is facing away from it.

II. Intended Learning Outcomes:

b. compare stars according to color and magnitude.

The Stars
Many people enjoy observing the stars at night. Stargazing usually raises some questions.
People may want to know how many stars there are or how far away they are.
To know more about stars, read and study on page 232-234.

 Stars are classified by color: blue, blue-white, white, yellow, orange-red, and red.
 The brightness of a star is called its magnitude.
