Speaking 1
I. TALENTS
1. Do you have a talent, or a something you are good at?
Yes. I think I have a knack for singing. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve performed in
many shows and school events. Moreover, I’m quite good at drawing, such as
making the card or invitation as a present.
2. Was it mastered recently or when you were young?
Well, I don’t think I would ever master it. Music and drawing are two subjects that
i learnt since i was in primary school. These classes provided me with a real leg
up to hone my skill in singing and drawing as well. And so over time, it became the
little talent I enjoy doing.
• A real leg up (n): sự trợ giúp
• Hone my skill (v): cải thiện kỹ năng của mình
3. Do you think your talent can be useful for your future work? Why?
I’m not really sure. I don’t think I’ll become a singer and an artist in the future so I
guess I will not have the opportunity to earn money with singing and drawing.
However, singing is useful for family and company gatherings, which helps me to
get on well with other people and have a wide circle of friends. Besides, when i’m
down in the dumps, i usually draw a picture to let my hair down.
4. Do you think anyone in your family has the same talent?
I must say I have a talented family. My parents have a beautiful voice while my
brother/sister have a knack for drawing. I’m pretty sure that I’ve inherited all my
abilities from my family members.

I think It depends. If I have to learn something by heart such as new vocabulary or a
poem, I will wake up early to learn because Im full of bean so that I will be able to
commit all the knowledge to my memory more quickly. However, I will study
1
subjects requiring calculations or logical thinking in the afternoon or at night because
my brain works more effectively during this period.
2. What do you usually do in the evening?
Hmm, as I said, I have a lot on my plate; most of the time, I often devote my valuable
time at night to work and finishing all my deadlines. I try to achieve work-life
balance. Evening is also the time when I focus on my personal life and relationships
such as by having dinner with mom and dad, hanging out with friends or recharging
your batteries for another new day.
3. What did you do in the evening when you were little? Why?
When I was a kid, the evening was the time for entertainment and relaxing. After
coming home from school, my family and I gathered around the table and had dinner,
then I watched my favourite cartoon on TV or went out to meet my childhood
friends. And when I was little, I used to go to bed early, before 11 pm but now, I
burn the midnight oil to meet the deadline so it’s such a bad habit.

ups and downs or even stroll around at the park.

2
some of the weekend. I also like strolling around at the park in the early morning to
enjoy the fresh air.
3. Do you think your weekends are long enough? [Why/Why not?]
So, whether our weekend is long enough or not depends on how we plan to spend
the time. But normally I think that my weekends are not long enough because I have
lots of activities to do. It is an ideal time to relax and arrange the upcoming schedule,
recharge my battery for the challenges of the next week.
4. How important do you think it is to have free time on the weekends?
[Why?]
Without a shadow of a doubt, apart from the importance of work, the recreational
activities are necessary. As I mentioned before, u know working at a stretch make
me feel under pressure and i can easily suffer from mental problems, weekends are
the ideal time for me to rechare my batteries and hang out with my friends and devote
my quality time to take care of my family. Therefore, it is definitely important that
we have enough free time in order to achieve a work-life balance, which lead to a

You know, with the advancement of technology, it allows people to use google map

city, google map is really useful tool for me to avoid getting lost. So, i make a habit
to read map before hitting the road.

Well I was a huge fan of puzzles when I was younger. I am pretty curious about

There are large amounts of things which make me boring like waiting to someone,
reading academic journals, listening to long speech. And on top of that, I also get
easily bored by the same daily routine: do a nine-to-five job, meet the same people
and do the same household chores. That’s why I usually hang out or go for a picnic
at the weekends so that I can refresh my mind.

rains cats and dogs, almost the areas are completely flooded, and people find it
difficult to escape from traffic congestion. When the weather is too hot or too cold,
I tend to procastinate my plan to go out.
The weather can make a huge impact on people's lives. Knowing the weather
forecast is a must when planning farming activities, organizing a party outdoors,
9
putting together a trip, or just commuting to work every morning. The weather
affects the livelihood of many people living in the coastal areas because they earn

Ocassionally, I also take a nap over the bench because I also feel fresh.

In my opinion, it’s crucial that citizens change from using private vehicles to public
transportation. I have to say that using environmentally-friendly transportations
more could mitigate air pollution from exhaust fumes and traffic jams, especially at

the peak hours. Another reason is that people can save more time and money because
its affordable cost (cheaper).
Therefore, it can help cut the level of greenhouse gases, reducing potential health
problems and decreasing global warming.

favor of public services because they are accessible and inexpensive and people can
get away from traffic jams. However, some people think that it’s convenient to use
private vehicles rather than public transportation. I don’t highly appreciate mass
transit in Can Tho because it is pretty poor in terms of quality. I mean they aren’t
equipped with free wifi and the comf seats. So yeah, I’d say things like buses and
trains are not widely-favored by a lot of Vietnamese people.
6. Did you take public transportation when you were a kid?
I would say no. when I was born and rase in the countryside , there used to be no
mass transit system there, let alone using them. So, all I knew about the so-called

take the bus to go to school.
Yes, I consider travelling as a optimal way to put my mind at ease. I have a tendency

each individual is unique. However, old buildings are often rundown, so city

Living in a high-rise building with ultra-modern design is likely to be everyone’s
first choice since this comes with excellent amenities. Nevertheless, some old

valleys and waterfalls, lasted up to 10 hours because of serverse traffic jams in
Saigon.
I nearly died in the car because my bladder was full but the car seemed not to be
moving. Luckily, I was travelling with my friends, which eased the burden placed
on me. we decided to play the general knowledge games like puzzles that requires
us to answer all questions, which help me to avoid being bored. They were also
relatively surprised that the traffic in Saigon was horrible. Finally, my trip went on
very smoothly.

during the rainy seasons.

Her name is My Tam and she’s been considered as the most successful singer,
songwriter and musical director of Vietnam for over two decades. Since her debut
in the late 90s, she has received numerous awards, including the ‘Artist of the Year’
for two consecutive years. I still remember when I was a little girl, I was obsessed
with her first major hit “Toc Nau Moi Tram” in her album Endless Love, which sold
thousands of copies nationwide. It stands to reason why My Tam is the queen of V-
Pop. She’s got a deep, powerful and distinctive voice that fits her into a variety of
genres, including pop, dance and rock.
Despite being one of the most popular artists, My Tam’s never stopped learning to
give flawless concerts and performances. She even collaborated with a Korean
music producer since she was unsatisfied with Vietnamese recording and studio
techniques. As far as I know, she also took more vocal training, dance lessons and
expanded her music genres. Interestingly, she has also been the coach for many
big music contests, one of which is The Voice of Vietnam.
As opposed to other famous artists, she is known to lead a frugal life and made great
contributions to various charitable causes throughout her career. She established the

Vietnam is worldwide famous for its stunning landscape and food cuisine, and Sam
Son is definitely a coastal city where you can be very pleased with both of them. It

modernization and charm of the old towns.
Sam Son beach is the most popular destination in Thanh Hoa and one of the most
beautiful beaches in Vietnam. With stretching white sand and blue water, the beach
attracts a large number of tourists coming to relax and escape from the hustle and
bustle of the city.
I had unforgettable experience when I could enjoy the cool water, listen to the
melody of the waves or expose themselves to the sun. I consider Samson as a good
place to taste fresh local seafood such as shrimps, crabs, fishes and also to bring back
home some nice souvenirs. Aside from Sam Son beach, Sam Son city also has other

famous attractions such as Doc Cuoc Pagoda, Truong Le Mountain and Trong Mai
Rock.
If i have enough time, I’d like to talk to you about local people here. They are really

At first, I flew into a panic because without passport, I was not able to check in
to get on board. I saw how crucial it is for me to confirm my identity at the airport.
I tried to keep calm and then contact the driver. after several attempts, the driver
answered. I explained what had happened, and asked him for bringing it back to me.
Luckily, he gave it to me on time. I said thanks and offered him some money.
However, he shook his head and refused, but instead wished me have a nice journey.

at foreign language center of CTU.
Since our main teacher was on holiday leave, Ms. Trang attended our class for only
one day but it was enough for her to leave a profound impression (để lại ấn tượng
sâu sắc) on us. She was younger than other teachers, but definitely wasn’t less
experienced.
I was really keen on her teaching approach. she always used to teach in an interactive
and very interesting manner to make language learning fun as well as interesting. I
can remember vividly that it was my final speaking lesson, she combined puzzule
games in lecture.
she divided the students into 4 groups and gave each group some tiny papers with
the question. And when the time was over, she would collect the answers. If you was

because she was unable to prepare it. U know face-to-face interaction put my health

our bounden duty.
Then I decided to help her by lending my computer to her. At the same time, I also
had incomplete report. Therefore, I tried to finish my deadline quickly with the help
of my laptop in 2 days and then gave my laptop to Winter. So, she used my computer

Racing is popular with Can Tho people and neighboring provinces. One-year motor
racing is usually held three times a day on the 4th Lunar New Year, Liberation Day
and independence day.
Cantho stadium is very important to not only Cantho but also the whole Mekong
delta. It is the biggest stadiums in Vietnam. it brings people from all parts of Mekong
delta together, and they cheer and shout with a passion to support the national team.

shopping is like a cherry on the cake. We can shop from the comfort of our home by
having access to million collections. However, it also paves the way for enormous
fraudulent activities. Today, I would like to share with you the disappointing
experience that I had when shopping online.
Admittedly, I purchased a lot of things before that time and received good service,
but a while ago, 2 years to be precised, I placed an order for Adidas shoes from
Shopee, which is the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia.
Actually, the same shoes were available on Adidas offical store as well but were
about 500.000vnđ costlier, so I decided to buy it from shopee.
I was so fascinated/eager about the shoes. In fact, I was boasting about the great deal
I found on the Internet to my friends.
However, when I opened the box, I was quite disappointed. My shoes were
duplicates. The brand name written on the shoes was not Adidas but Adidaas, with
a double a. I know a big brand could never make such a big mistake.
So, I called the customer care number of Shopee and told them about the problem.
They required me to take a photograph and send it. Immediately, they offered me
two choices. Either they could refund the money or I could buy something else for
the same price. When I courier the shoes back to the seller, they refunded me the
whole amount along with the courier charges I entailed.
I was quite satisfied with their handling of my complaint. However, I also felt it was
a waste of time. The whole process took about two weeks. It give me a lesson that
whenever I go shopping online, I make the habit of checking the information of
product carefully and choose the pretisgious retail outlet.

typical of the Southeast region with forests, rivers, boats, fish and people life style
and closes to my childhood. This named DAT PHUONG NAM.
I gotto say that almost people in Vietnam know about that film because it is an epic
in praise of southerners, their history, culture. It is adapted from the novel with the
same name Land of the southern forest by writer Doan Gioi, which is introduced in
the literature in primary school. This movie is still rebrocasted on provincial TV
stations during summer every year.
DAT PHUONG NAM is set in the Southern land during the period of French
colonial rule and the tycoons and landlords. The film is a story about the adventures
of the boy named An, who was alone and drifted in the war and then was saved and
raised by local people in the southern region. Almost all characters in the film have
common features such as poverty, work and being exploited by tenants. However,
we also found that in them, there was courage and a deep patriotic spirit. They ignited
their fiery will, deep colonial and feudal hatred.
Last but not least, through DAT PHUONG NAM all Vietnamese children know
about Ca Mau people lifestyle, zigzag canals and the vast Tien and Hau rivers. This
film inspire children to converted Doan Gioi’s story into paintings, musical works
and films. Besides, the its music original sountrack is compatible with my soul,
which close to my childhood.

at university. I wanted to go for Natural Economics as I have always dreamed of
becoming a researcher.
I gave him some major reasons why I didn’t approriate for operating. First of all, I'm
not interested in it at all and I find it quite challenging. On top of that, a doctor needs
to be patient and meticulous but I'm kind of the opposite. If I were a doctor, I would
definitely be a terrible one because of mistakes that I made.
Our conversation lasted for almost 2 hours and it didn't end well. My father was
pretty mad at me for not listening to him so he decided to give me the cold shoulder
after that. I had to ask my mother and my older sister to talk him into accepting my
choice, and my efforts paid off. After a few weeks with lots of effort and
determination, I was finally able to persuade my father to let me choose my own
career path. Needless to say, I was thrilled to bits at that moment and I gave him a
big hug to thank him. Now looking back, I feel so glad that I stayed persisted with
my decision because if I hadn't, I would probably regret it for the rest of my life.

You should say:
– Who/he/she is?
– Whether you worked together before?
– What kind of work you would like to do with him/ her?
– And explain how you feel about this family member?
Generally, people may have admiration for a celebrity like a singer or an actor... but
for me, there is a person in my family... that I consider role model... and now I would
like to introduce my elder sister to you.
In terms of the way my life has been affected by my sister, she is the most
enthusiastic advocate of mine... who has become my personal advisor and guided
54
me through difficult situations. For example, during my university time, I used to
feel myself in vain...because oflow scores in exams. she let me cry on her shoulder...
and encouraged me to work harder for the following exams... instead of crying over
spilt milk.
Our hobbies are not the same, so I think the only reason that we get on well with
each other is sharing. Whenever I'm down, she raises me up. When I'm in trouble,
she pulls me out. He never puts any pressure on me and always encourages me to
lead a life that I want.
Moving on to my sister’s current work, she is a lecturer in Cantho university, which
is a prestigious university in Mekong Delta. She just completed the PHD programme
in Japan. I used to cooperate and assist her in some project about the natural-related
problems.
Lastly, I should also mention the reason why I admire my brother, well... I believe
my sister has the characteristics of a true gentleman... because shi is caring, and
knowledgeable. He is the mirror that reflects my parents' strict educationfrom early
childhood
She is a constant reminder that I must put my best foot forward for whatever I do.
She wants to become an actress and I am leaving no stone unturned in helping her
fulfil this dream. I just hope she realizes that she is extremely special to me.
A gift always brings a smile on our face, whenever we receive it. Moreover, it shows
our importance in other’s life. Different types of gifts are given on different
occasions, as a token of blessings and love. I have also received many gifts so far on
various occasions. On my last birthday, I received money as a gift from my elder
brother.

write. I vividly remember that a while ago, 2 years to be precised, I got a chance to
do volunteering work in Măng Đen village which is the remote moutaineous area.
This activity has been organized by Nam Can Tho University, with purpose of
eliminating the illiteracy. You know, children in rural communities have less access
to education. During this time in Măng Đen, I taught children how to spell,
pronounce and practice counting numbers. Besides, I also read the poems and stories
for them as this helped them learn language as well as developed listening and
reading skills. The most significant thing was that I needed to be enthusiastics and
gave them lots of encouragement and praises. I made a flashcards and crossword to
remember the new words more effectively.
After such a wonderful experience, I felt so happy and proud when I saw children
develop the reading and writing skills. I also learnt that dealing with children needs
special skills of understanding children psychology and lots of patients. this is such
a unforgetable memory until now. And my mom taught me the lesson and
significance of help and now I don’t hesitate to help with others.
Speaking 10/09
1. What health problems do you often have?
I don't have experience with health problems, but I've experienced some health issues
related to playing sports in the past. One common problem I often have is minor injuries
like sprained ankles or pulled muscles. These injuries can be painful and take some time
to heal. Another issue I've faced is muscle soreness, especially after an intense workout
or a challenging sports activity. It can make moving around a bit uncomfortable for a day
or two. Additionally, I've had a few instances of overheating and dehydration during hot
summer sports events, which can lead to dizziness and fatigue. So, while I enjoy being
active and playing sports, I do try to take precautions and stay hydrated to avoid these
health problems.
2. Why do you suffer from these health problems?
Injuries like sprained ankles or pulled muscles often occur because of the physical strain
and sudden movements involved in sports. Sometimes accidents happen, and it's
challenging to avoid these injuries completely.
3. What do you often do when you suffer these health problems?
Even though I usually get injuries, most of them weren't serious at all. So what I normally
do is that I apply ice to the swollen or painful area. This helps to reduce swelling and can
56
relieve pain. I keep the injured area elevated. For a sprained ankle, I prop it up on a
cushion or pillow and I try not to walk or put too much pressure on it.
4. What do you usually do to keep healthy?
To stay healthy, I have a regular routine. Firstly, to exercise regularly, I make it a point to
exercise at least three to four times a week. This could be a mix of cardio, strength
training, and flexibility exercises. Secondly, to have a balanced diet, I try to maintain a
balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains. I also
try to limit sugary and processed foods. Lastly, to get enough sleep, I aim for 7-8 hours of
sleep each night to ensure my body and mind have enough time to rest.
