III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

1. Greetings
Good Morning Class! Good morning, ma’am!

2. Opening Prayer
Before anything else, let’s have our
prayer. Yes , kindly lead
the prayer. (one student will lead the
prayer)
Ok! Thank you.
Before you will seat, kindly pick up the
pieces of paper under your chair and
make sure our classroom is clean. Yes, ma’am.

3. Checking of the Attendance

Monitor of the class, who is absent
today? Ma’am, I’m glad to tell that no one
is absent today.
Very good class! I hope that this good
scenario will always be remain.

4. Checking of Assignment
Have you given a homework to do last
meeting? No, sir.
Okay.

B. REVIEW
Last meeting, we discussed about the soil
analysis. Again, can you give the definition
of soil analysis?
Sir, soil analysis is to determine
what nutrients are present in the
soil.
Aside from soil analysis, what else did we
discuss last time? Sir, we also discussed the soil
sampling.
Very good class. What is soil sampling? Sir, soil sampling is getting a
sample of soil from the field.
Very well said!
Do you still have any question about our
topic last meeting?
None sir!
Excellent! It seems that you were listening
attentively during our discussion last
meeting.

C. MOTIVATION

Before we proceed to our next lesson, do

you want to play a game? Yes sir.

Are you familiar with the game called

4Pics 1Word? Yes sir.

All you need to do is to look at these

pictures and observe them one by one.
Understood? Yes sir.

Let’s begin.
(The teacher will flash pictures) (The students will look and observe the
pictures)

Based on your observation, what do you

think are these pictures all about? It’s all about preparing, sir.

Very Good!
How about this one?
(The teacher will flash pictures) (The students will look and observe the
pictures)

It talks about land, sir.

Exactly!
What about this?
(The teacher will flash pictures) (The students will look and observe the
pictures)

It’s all about planting, sir

Correct!

What about this?

(The teacher will flash pictures) (The students will look and observe the
pictures)

It’s all about rice.

D. PRESENTATION
If we combine those words, what do you
think would our topic for today? Preparing and planting rice, sir.

Very well said! Our lesson for today is all

about Preparing the Land for Planting Rice

And at the end of this lesson, you are

expected to do some tasks. So, what are
these tasks, kindly read them. Objectives:
a. define the different methods in
preparing the land;
b. distinguish the different methods
of preparing the land for planting
rice: and
c. appreciate the value of preparing
the land for planting rice.
Alright, thank you!
For you to perform those tasks well, you
have to pay attention and participate during
the class discussion. Is that clear?

E. DISCUSSION

Class, what do you think is the importance

of preparing the land for planting rice? Sir, I think before we do the planting, we
need to prepare the land first because if
there is no preparation the planting process
would be hard.
Awesome!

Just like you, before you go to school you

need to prepare yourselves first. Isn’t it,
class? Yes sir

So as to planting, we need to prepare the

land first for easy planting.

And aside from that, if the land preparation

is not uniform, what do you think will
happen to the plants? Sir, if the land preparation is not uniform the
growth of the plants is uneven.

Exactly!
There are three ways on how we can
prepare our land for planting. Can you read
the first method? The first one is plowing.

And what is your idea about plowing? Plowing is the process of breaking up the
soil.
Very good!
In addition to that, plowing can be
accomplished with a power tiller or
moldboard plow hitched to a carabao.

Have you ever seen this method class? Yes, sir.

Can you tell the class where did you see

this method? When my father prepares our land for
planting. He uses the mold board plow hitch
with the carabao.
Nice!

And what is the second method? Will you

read. The second one is harrowing.

And what is all about harrowing?

It is to allow more weeds to geminate before
these are turned under soil giving more time
for plowed fresh organic matter to
decompose.
Exactly!
The student will look at the picture.
And take note class, harrowing is done 2-3
times depending on the soil condition.
Harrowing can be best accomplished by
leaving just enough water in the field to
expose the high and low areas.

For the last method, we have rotavating

Who has an idea about rotavating? Rotavating is employed with the use of
a rotary tiller or rotavator drawn by a
tractor.
Very well said!

Class, have you seen a rotavator? The students will answer.

Did you know that in rotavating is a more

efficient method of preparing a land for
planting?

Yes, a rotary tiller may take the place of a

plow and harrow because it changes the
soil into fine tilts having a sufficient depth.

Do you understand, class? Yes, sir.

Very good! Do you have any question

regarding this? None, ma’am.
Okay! Out of the three methods of land
preparation, what do you think is the best
way of preparing the land for planting? Sir, for me it is the rotavating method.

And why do you think rotavating is the Because rotavating can perform more
best method? task.

Nice! How about the others? Sir, I think plowing is the most
effective method.

And why do you say so? Because we don’t have any farm
machines to be used in our farm. We
only have a carabao.
Good!
Class, regardless of the method you are
going use, as long as you have passion in
what you are doing then you will be able to
prepare the land for planting. Are you with
me? Yes, sir.

So, did you understand our lesson for

today? Yes, sir.

Very good!

F. APPLICATION

Think of any farmer in your town and site

the ways on how he/she does the land
preparation. What are his/her other
strategies in making planting of rice more
convenient. Make some discussion within
your group on what suggestions and
recommendations you can give to that
farmer. And after, you will report the result
of your activity here in front.

Did you understand? Yes, sir.

Okay, let’s start!

G. GENERALIZATION

Again, what are the three methods of land

preparation? Sir, these are plowing, harrowing, and
rotavating.
What is plowing then?
Plowing is the process of breaking up
the soil.
How about harrowing?
It is to allow more weeds to geminate
before these are turned under soil
giving more time for plowed fresh
organic matter to decompose.
And rotavating is?
Rotavating is employed with the use of
a rotary tiller or rotavator drawn by a
tractor.
What is the importance of land
preparation? So that planting would be easy and
convenient, sir

Very Good! All your answers are correct!

Do you have any question, class? None sir!

IV. EVALUATION
Identify the following:
1. can best be accomplished by leaving just enough water in the field, about 2-5
cm to expose the high and low areas.
2. drawn by a tractor for easier, faster and safer land preparation both for wet
and dry method.
3. may take the place of a plow and harrow because it changes the soil into fine
tilts having sufficient depth.
4. can be accomplished with a power tiller or moldboard plow hitched to a
carabao.
5. In irrigated fields, flood the field before plowing to soften the soil.
6. If possible, wait between two successive harrowing to allow more weed
seeds to germinate before these are turned under the soil giving more time for plowed
fresh organic matter to decompose.
7. produces too much heat and carbon dioxide (CO2) which may cause the
newly transplanted seedlings to exhibit slow growth.
8. Decomposition is faster in soil.
9. Plowing can be accomplished with a or moldboard plow hitched to a carabao
.

10. removes toxic substances, allowing organic matter to decompose

and help the plant produce deeper and stronger roots.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Essay
1. Interview some local farmers and get some information on the practices he/she does
in preparing his/her hand for planting rice.
