B. Drill/Review Before we proceed to our lesson can
anyone remember what we have tackled
last meeting?
The last lesson that you have discussed
was the use of graphic organizer in
writing paragraphs showing cause and
effect, comparison and contrast and
problem solution relationships.
What can you remember about the
discussion yesterday?
Comparison and Contrast Paragraphs
are texts in which the similarities and
differences of two subjects (persons,
places, events, or objects) are
presented and organized logically.
Okay, very well
C. Motivation Before we proceed to our new lesson we
will have an activity.
I have two pictures here, and I want all of
you to take a look at these pictures. Then,
give me words which you think best
describes what you see.
Picture 1
Picture 2
Okay, what comes into your mind upon
seeing those pictures? The first picture was a modernized
house that looks so pretty, while
the second picture is an old
house.
Very good! Any other answers?
Aside from being ugly the second
house is also small.
Okay, how about the first house? The first house is a big house,
beautiful.
Very good observation class. Now, what
have you noticed with the words that you Some of the words given have the
have given? same meaning while others are
opposite.
Very good observation class!
D. Presentation Alright, the activity that I have given has a
connection with our topic for today.
The two pictures show different features,
like what you have said or observed
earlier. You have described the two
pictures as pretty, beautiful, ugly, small,
and big.
So, to continue with our discussion, our
topic for this morning is all about inferring
the meaning of unfamiliar words,
specifically the synonyms and antonyms.
E. Discussion Class, from our activity earlier, what do
you think synonyms and antonyms
mean?
Okay, let's define synonyms and
antonyms.
Synonyms, or words with the same
meaning, are used in the sentence.
For example:
beautiful – pretty
hat – cap
car – vehicle
house – home
Correct — right
Okay, class, did you understand now
what synonyms are?
Yes ma’am
How about the antonyms? Do you have
any ideas now?
I guess antonyms mean words that are
opposite from one another.
Wow! Good job! That's correct. An
antonym is a word or group of words that
has the opposite meaning that tells the
meaning of an unknown term.
For example:
small — big
few — many
beautiful — ugly
combine — separate
Okay, another example is through
sentences wherein there are synonyms
and antonyms.
Example 1:
The stars were shiny and the planets
were bright.
Now, what are the synonyms in the
sentence?
The synonyms are the words shiny and
bright, which have the same meaning.
Example 2:
A phone call to Angela's Mom will make
her happy when she’s sad.
The antonyms are the words happy and
sad, which are opposite from one
another.
Example 3:
Angel likes to teach school and tutor her
students.
The synonyms are the words teach and
tutor.
Example 4:
Jhersy was raised in Arizona, so she
played a lot of summer sports and fewer
winter sports.
The antonyms are the words summer and
winter.
Class, did you understand our
discussion?
You can now make your own sentences Yes ma'am
using synonyms and antonyms?
Yes ma'am
F. Generalization Class, again, what do synonyms and
antonyms mean?
Synonyms are words that have the
same meaning.
Very good, how about antonyms?
Antonyms are words or groups of words
that have an opposite meaning.
Can you give one example of synonyms
in a sentence?
It made me feel sad to see my friend so
unhappy.
Very good. What about antonyms in a
sentence form?
Julie, please fill the dishwasher and
empty the trash.
Wow, very good class. Give yourself a
YES CLAP.
One, two, three YES!!!
G. Application Class, let's have an activity. I will be
posting a table that includes three
columns.

each.
