Discovering Purpose

Session 4
How Do I Live Out My Purpose?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was
with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made
that has been made.” - John 1:1-3

Who is the “Word”?

Why is it important to start the story of Jesus like this?

“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but
because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the
beginning of time,”- 2 Timothy 1:9

What is this verse saying about Jesus?

How do you know if you have been saved? How do we become saved?
What was God’s plan when it came to Jesus’ purpose?

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
- 2 Peter 3:9

What does it mean to be slow in keeping promises?

How did God keep His promises to us by sending Jesus?
How does this verse apply to our purpose and what does God promise us through that?

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every
opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the
Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the
Spirit...” - Ephesians 5:15-18

What stood out to you from this verse?

How should we live according to this verse?

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” - Matthew 28:18-20

The last things a person says are often the most important, and that’s no different for Jesus.
Why do you think he chose these words to say before He went back up into heaven?
What does that mean for us? How would Jesus have us live our lives based on His last words?
