What is Eid-e-Zehra and why do we Celebrate it?
Eid-e-Zehra is a day of celebration, a day in which even the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) rejoiced! This day holds importance because of several events that happened on this day. One of the events which is marked on this day is the beginning of the Imamate of our 12th Imam, al-Hujjah ibn al-Hasan (may Allah hasten his return). His father, Imam Hasan al-Askari (AS) left this world on the 8th and, immediately after, his son took over the leadership at the age of 5. His leadership has spanned over 1,160 years. Some historians note that Our Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) was born on this day but most Shia's believe that he was born on the 17th of Rabi ul Awwal. However, it is recommended that the celebrations of the birth of our Prophet begin a week before, hence, the 9th is a very special day as we are celebrating the birth of our last Prophet of Islam. The day also marks the first time that our 4th Imam smiled and rejoiced after the tragic events of Kerbala in which he saw his entire family and loyal friends murdered in cold blood by Ibne Ziyaad, Umar ibne Sad, Yazid ibne Muawiyah and the others who were responsible for the crimes. The 9th of Rabee al-Awwal is known as Eid-e-Zahra (a.s) meaning the festival of Fatima al-Zahra (a.s), because 3 to 4 years after the tragedy of Karbala, it was on this day that joy and happiness was restored in the family of Ahlul-Bayt (a.s). From the tragedy of Karbala in 61 A.H. till this day, the family members of the Holy Prophet (saww) had continuously mourned and grieved the martyrdom of Imam alHusayn (a.s). Mukhtar and Maalik al-Ashtar had arrested everyone that was responsible for the killing of our Imam's family in Kerbala. When this happened, our 4th Imam, Zain ul Abideen (a.s) went into prostration and said, I thank Allah who kept me alive to this day so that I could see the heads of the tyrants who killed my father. Imam Zain ul Abideen (a.s) instructed the members of his family to remove the clothes of mourning, adorn themselves and celebrate the day with joy and happiness. It is noted that the Prophet of Islam himself was seen smiling and celebrating on this day while in the presence of Imams Ali, Hasan and Husain and said, It is on this day that Allah will destroy your enemies and the enemies of your grandfather and it is on this day when Allah will accept the actions of your Shia and those who love you. This is the day when the words of Allah came true where He said (in the Quran): So those are the houses fallen down because they were unjust. (27:52) And this is the day when the Pharaoh (Firawn) of the time of the Ahlul Bayt was destroyed ...
