Description and Use

CSSD Manual Detergent is a clear colourless foamy liquid with neutral odour. It is used for
cleaning instruments manually.

CSSD Manual Detergent is only a cleaner. All instruments requiring disinfection or


sterilisation must be treated after cleaning.

Features and Benefits

CSSD Manual Detergent is a biodegradable, non corrosive, mildly alkaline detergent. It has
been formulated to comply with the requirements for cleaners outlined in ‘Australian
Standard AS/NZ5 4187:2003. Cleaning, disinfecting and sterilising reusable medical and
surgical instruments and equipment, and maintenance of associated environments in health
care facilities.’

How to Use

Flush items with running water, within the temperature range 15ºC to 30ºC to remove gross
visible blood and body substances.

Fill a sink with warm water (approximately 45ºC) and add CSSD Manual Detergent at a rate
of 3ml/litre.

Hold items low in sink to limit generation of aerosols. Wash all surfaces including lumens
and valves, inspecting for cleanliness.

Refill sink with fresh solution after each batch or sooner if visibly soiled.

When clean rinse in warm to hot running water.

Dry thoroughly preferably in a drying cabinet.

Items that require disinfection must be disinfected with a high level instrument grade
disinfectant registered with the TGA.

Items requiring sterilisation must be sterilised using the appropriate method.

Technical Details

CSSD Manual Detergent contains a blend of biodegradable detergents with excellent


cleaning ability and anti corrosion properties. It has a pH of 11.2 in the neat form.

Safety

Warning – when cleaning and handling used items, follow standard precautions at all stages
of handling to minimise exposure to blood and body substances.

Wear appropriate personal protection, such as gloves, specifically designed fluid repellent
masks/eye protection/face shields and fluid resistant aprons or gowns.
