Scene: School Resource Room

Characters:

 Ms. Nacion (Teacher)

 Ms. Nasayao (Special Education Teacher)
 Dr. Siguenza (School Psychologist)
 Mrs. Coper (Sarah’s Mother)
 Analiza (Student – 9 years old)

(Scene opens with everyone seated around a table. Ms. Nacion begins.)

Ms. Nacion: Good morning, everyone. Thank you for taking the time to meet today. My name is Ms.
Nacion, Analiza's classroom teacher. This is Ms. Nasayao, her special education teacher, and Dr.
Siguenza, our school psychologist. And of course, Mrs. Coper, Sarah's mother. We're all here today for
Sarah's IEP review.

Ms. Nasayao: It’s great to meet you Mrs. Coper. We appreciate you being here.

Dr. Siguenza: Good Morning. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Analiza on a few assessments.

Mrs. Coper: Good Morning. Thank you for having me.

Ms. Nacion: We’re here today to review Analiza’s Individualized Education Program. Analiza’s making
good progress in several areas, but we’ve identified some challenges in math and social interaction that
we want to address collaboratively. We’ll focus on refining her goals and strategies to best support her
learning and growth. Analiza why don’t you say hello?

Analiza: (quietly) Hi.

Ms. Nacion: So, to build on what we've already discussed, let's talk about Sarah's strengths and where
she's facing challenges. Ms. Davis, perhaps you could start by highlighting some of Sarah's positive
attributes in the classroom?

Ms. Nasayao: Absolutely. Sarah is a very bright and creative student. She excels in art and writing. She's
also very kind and empathetic towards her classmates, although she sometimes struggles to express
that in group settings. She's also very good at following instructions once she understands them.
Analiza, what’s your favorite thing to do in class?

Analiza: (smiling slightly) Art!

Ms. Nacion: That's great to hear! And what are some areas where she's finding things a bit more
difficult?

Ms. Nasayao: As we mentioned, math problem-solving is a major area of concern. She often gets
frustrated and gives up easily when faced with a challenging problem. She also seems to struggle with
tasks that require sustained focus and attention.

Mrs. Coper: We've noticed that at home too. She'll start a problem, and if she doesn't get it right away,
she gets discouraged and wants to move on to something else.

Dr. Siguenza: My observations align with what you've described. The assessments show some anxiety
related to math, potentially contributing to her frustration and avoidance. It seems she might benefit
from strategies that build her confidence and break down complex problems into smaller steps.

Ms. Nacion: It sounds like we're all seeing a similar pattern. She has clear strengths, but we need to
address the frustration and anxiety around math, and also encourage more participation in group
activities. So, let’s outline some specific, measurable goals for Analiza’s IEP. We need to focus on both
her math skills and her social interaction. To start with math, what are some achievable, short-term
goals we can set?

Ms. Nasayao: We could aim for Analiza to correctly solve 80% of her assigned problems independently,
with the use of visual aids, by the end of the next marking period. We can also focus on her ability to
explain her problem-solving process.

Dr. Siguenza: And for social interaction, we could aim for Analiza to participate in at least two small
group activities per week, contributing at least one idea or suggestion to the group.

Mrs. Coper: Those sound like reasonable goals. We can certainly reinforce those at home.
Ms. Nacion: Excellent! We’ll track her progress regularly and adjust our strategies as needed. We’ll
schedule a follow-up meeting in three months to review her progress and make any necessary
adjustments to her IEP.

Ms. Nasayao: I think this is a comprehensive plan, and by working together, we can make significant
progress.

Dr. Siguenza: I agree. A collaborative approach is key to Analiza’s success.

Mrs. Coper: We’re committed to supporting Analiza at home and working closely with you all.

Ms. Nacion: Thank you all for your participation. We're confident that with this plan and everyone's
support, Analiza will continue to grow and achieve her full potential. We'll send you a copy of the
updated IEP shortly. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Analiza,
good job participating today!

Analiza: (smiles) Thank you.
