Unit 4: ICT Conventional and Digital Tools in

Delivering Technology-Enhanced Lessons, Flexible

Learning, and Assessment Tools
DIGITAL LEARNING RESOURCES
 These are the materials in the form of software or application and digitally
formatted resources like pictures, audios, videos, simulations, animations, e-books,
modules, and many more. Below are some of the applications used for teaching
and learning.

GOOGLE DOCS

 Is a web-based document management application for creating and editing private

and public, word processing and spreadsheet documents. These documents can be
stored both online on Google cloud and/or on the user’s computer.
 Access to these files is available from any computer with an Internet connection
and a fully featured Web Browser like Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge, and
Safari. In using google docs, you should have a google account.

MICROSOFT OFFICE

 Microsoft office is a suite of desktop productivity applications that is designed

specifically to be used for office or business. It is a propriety product of Microsoft
Corporation.
 Microsoft Office consists of the following applications:
o Microsoft Word: for creating text documents
o Microsoft Excel: Creates simple to complex data/numerical spreadsheets.
o Microsoft PowerPoint: Stand-alone application for creating professional
multimedia presentations.
o Microsoft Access: Database management application
o Microsoft Publisher: Introductory application for creating and publishing
marketing materials.
o Microsoft OneNote: alternate to a paper notebook, it enables user to neatly
organize their notes.

SURVEY MONKEY

 Is an online survey development cloud-based software as a service company,

founded in 1999 by Ryan Finley. SurveyMonkey provides free, customizable
surveys, as well as a suite of paid back-end programs that include data analysis,
sample selection, bias elimination, and data representation tools. Survey monkey
provides free and paid plans for individual users.

GOOGLE FORMS
 Is a free online tool from Google which allows users to create forms, surveys, and
quizzes as well as to collaboratively edit and share the forms with other people.
Google forms can be used to assess the students at the beginning of the class and
gauge pre-existing knowledge. Furthermore, Google forms can be used to give
feedback to and receive feedback from students and parents. Similarly, students
can use Google forms to assess their own learning and set the learning goals as
well as to collect data for their research projects.

PLICKERS

 Is an assessment tool made by a teacher who was looking for a quick and simple
way to check students understanding.
 This assessment tool allows teachers to collect on-the-spot formative assessment
data without the need to have students use devices or paper and pencil. Teachers
can use this tool with previous planning or on the go as needed.
 This tool provides teachers with the data needed to inform their instruction. “It
provides students with the opportunity to participate and engage in learning
without feeling self-conscious.”

CONVENTIONAL LEARNING RESOURCES

 Even in this digital age, it is undeniable that good old-fashioned learning resources
are still useful or it not, effective.
 Every student has their own learning style, some learn fast through on-line, some
learn fast in actual face to face instruction.

FLIP CHART

 It is one of the most effective ways of delivering instructions, and yes, until this
day of digital age, especially in remote areas where computers and internet are not
yet available.

REALIA

 Refers to objects or items from real life, which are used in the classroom to
illustrate and teach vocabulary or to serve as an aid to facilitate language
acquisition and production. Realia is also used in classroom instruction by
educators to improve students’ understanding of other cultures and real-life
situations.

LESSON 2: Distance Learning

Overview:
-Distance learning provides access to education through the use of technology tools.
Teachers and students can interact at a distance without having to be physically present
in the same location.

-Distance learning provides students with flexibility in attaining their educational goals
through the use of audio, video, internet, and other tools and applications.

DISTANCE LEARNING

-Distance learning is conventionally defined as any educational or learning process or

system in which the teacher and instructor are separated geographically or in time from
his or her students; or in which students are separated from other students or
educational resources.

-In distance learning, students can study at their own pace, without having to meet their
teachers physically. This method of education is appropriate to students in rural areas
where they live far away from the school, and most especially to students with
disabilities who wish to learn.

KEY FEATURES OF DISTANCE LEARNING

 Separation of teacher and learner during instructional process

 Separation of teacher and learner in space and/or time.
 The use of ICT or digital resources and print media to unite teacher and learner
and carry course content.
 The provision of two-way communication between teacher, tutor, or educational
agency and learner, and
 Control of the learning pace by the student.

TYPES OF ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING

 Synchronous
o Synchronous instruction requires the simultaneous participation of all
students and instructors. The advantage of synchronous instruction is that
interaction is done in “real time” and has an immediacy. Examples include
teleconferencing, web conferencing, and internet chats.
 Asynchronous
o Asynchronous instruction does not require the simultaneous participation of
all students and instructors. Students are not required to report to the school
or be online in a specific time as scheduled by the school or by the teacher.
Instead, students can choose or make their own time frame to interact with
the learning materials and to the teachers.
o Examples: e-mail, listservs, printed materials like modules, video courses
uploaded to YouTube, and learning management system (web-based courses)
