the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and certain cancers.
According to a study published in The Lancet, plant-rich diets can reduce
the risk of cardiovascular disease by up to 31%.
Plant-based diets are rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, which support
gut health, reduce inflammation, and boost the immune system.
Environmental benefits:
Reducing meat consumption in favor of plant-based foods can significantly
lower one’s carbon footprint and conserve vital resources such as water and
land.
Reduced greenhouse gas emission. The United Nations reports that livestock
production accounts for nearly 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Grain used for animal feed by the U.S. alone could feed close to a billion
hungry people. A meat-free or meat-reduced diet would allow more produce
to be allocated for human consumption.
Whether through small dietary changes or a full transition, embracing a
plant-rich diet is a powerful way to improve well-being while contributing

Ralston MS Girl Scouts Bring Hands‐On Learning to Redwood Shores Elementary
By Audrey Cerna
A group of Girl Scouts from Ralston Middle School has successfully
completed their Silver Award project, creating planter boxes and lesson
plans for Redwood Shores Elementary. The project, which was headed by
6th and 8th grade Cadettes Katie Cerna, Sydney Hubert, and Audrey
Cerna, was to help students to be more familiar with nature through
hands-on activities
The planter boxes will help the students to understand the plant life cycles,
sustainability and will also help them learn teamwork as they take care of
the plants on their own. In order to assist the teachers in incorporating
the garden into their lessons, the scouts also wrote lesson plans on
gardening, environmental responsibility, and plant biology.
After months of planning, building, and writing, the planter boxes are the new resources. The Girl Scouts expressed their gratitude to the school,
now ready for use, and teachers have access to the new lesson plans. The teachers, parents, and supporters who helped bring their vision to life.
