Khái niệm

Câu điều kiện loại 2 là mẫu câu dùng để diễn tả tình huống, hành động không có thật và
không thể xảy ra ở hiện tại và tương lai.

Ví dụ câu điều kiện loại 2: If David were a millionaire, he would build a library in his
hometown. (Nếu David là 1 triệu phú thì anh ấy sẽ xây một thư viện ở quê nhà).

→ Trong thực tế, David không thể trở thành triệu phú, đây là điều kiện không thể xảy ra.

Công thức câu điều kiện loại 2

Mệnh đề IF Mệnh đề chính

IF + S + V-ed/V2 S + would/could/should + V1

Lưu ý:

● Trong câu điều kiện loại 2, tất cả các ngôi đại từ nhân xưng đều đi với động từ tobe là
“were”.
● Mệnh đề if có thể đứng ở đầu câu hoặc cuối câu.
● Trong mệnh đề chính, ngoài would và could ra thì có thể sử dụng trợ động từ khác
như might, should, had to, ought to.

Ví dụ:

– If I were you, I would not waste money on cosmetics. (Nếu tớ là cậu, tớ sẽ không lãng phí
tiền vào mỹ phẩm đâu).

– If she were here, she wouldn’t choose Pizza for dinner. (Nếu cô ấy ở đây, cô ấy chắc sẽ
không gọi Pizza để ăn tối đâu).
Đảo ngữ câu điều kiện loại 2

Đảo ngữ câu điều kiện loại 2 nhằm đưa ra lời khuyên một cách lịch sự.

- Nếu trong câu có động từ “were” thì đưa “were” lên trước chủ ngữ, đứng đầu câu thay
thế cho “if”.
- Nếu trong câu không có động từ “were” thì mượn “were” đảo lên đầu và dùng “To V”
sau chủ ngữ.

Were + S1 + (not) + O, S2 + would/might/could + V-inf

Ví dụ: If you listened carefully, you would know more about it.

-> Were you to listen carefully, you would know more about it. (Nếu bạn lắng nghe kỹ càng,
bạn có thể hiểu hơn về chuyện đó).
