APPROACH & FEATURES
Superkilen’s design was guided by the principle of inclusivity,
cultural representation, and community-driven urban planning.
Instead of imposing a standard Scandinavian aesthetic, the
project sourced objects and design elements from over 50
countries representing the nationalities of the local residents.
Superkilen's design involved a thorough study and community
engagement to shape the park's layout.
It features three zones—Red Square, Black Market, and Green
Park—each with unique functions.
The design prioritizes accessibility and aesthetic diversity, using
materials from around the world to reflect local cultures
FUNCTIONALITY & CULTURAL ASPECTS
Use of Recycled Materials: Many design elements were sourced fro
different countries and repurposed into the park.
Urban Greening: The Green Park enhances biodiversity and provides natur
cooling.
Rainwater Management: The surfaces are designed to manage stormwate
effectively, preventing flooding.
Multiculturalism: By incorporating everyday items from different countrie
the park serves as a physical manifestation of globalization and cultur
exchange.
Social Cohesion: Encourages interaction between different ethnic group
through shared public space.
Artistic Expression: Features public art installations and neon signs tha
contribute to an eclectic aesthetic.
OUTCOMES & CONCLUSION
Community Engagement: Residents were actively involved in selecting objects and design elements,
fostering a sense of ownership.
Crime Reduction: The park has played a role in making Nørrebro a safer and more vibrant place.
