FIRST YEAR ENGLISH PREVIOUS QUESTIONS

SPEECH

1. Prepare a motivational speech based on the lessons ‘His first flight’, ‘I will fly’, ‘Quest for
a theory of everything’, and ‘If’, pointing the messages and ideas you derived from them
2. Disaster management has assumed greater importance in recent times. Deliver a speech
at the school assembly on international disaster reduction day on “the purpose and
need for disaster management”
3. The shipping company and the passenger tourists have decided to acknowledge the
meritorious service of Hasan during the pandemic. Dr. AJ Cronin was asked to introduce
Hasan in the felicitation programme. Prepare the script of the introductory speech.

TRAVEL ESSAY

1. ‘A travel , in fact, an eye-opener, it opens up new, refreshing snapshots before us and


often helps us change our philosophy of life.’ Write a travel essay describing the travel
experience you had recently.
2. You happened to travel alone for the first time without your parents. Write about your
travel experience in about 120 words.
3. You and your friend visit the Kadavu island on one of your vacations. Write a travel
essay on the tour.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

1. Having read the story ‘Conceptual Fruit’ , you feel interested in the cause of differently
abled children and decide to highlight their problems. Write a letter to the editor of a
prominent daily commenting on the plight and needs of such children.
2. Almost all children have access to phones and internet in present times. But these
sometimes do more harm than good. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper on the
‘advantages and disadvantages of internet use by children.’

1. You had a sleepless night burdened with unnecessary worries. Write an e- mail to your
friend sharing your experience.
2. The army chief of North West Frontier Regiment sent an e- mail to Frank’s mother
informing about his death in the war. Prepare the e-mail.
3. After returning to his home town Guy De Maupassant sends a mail to Jovis. Draft an e-
mail of gratitude to Jovis.

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

1. You happened to meet Mr. Gupta. As the editor of the school magazine, you got a
chance to interview him. Prepare a questionnaire and the likely responses (at least 6
exchanges).
