Major Paper #1

Subject: My Distinguished Restaurant

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My uncle has left the great state of Nevada and started a new life practicing law in
Europe. He has left me a vast amount of money and the building that he used to call his law
office. I have decided to start a music themed restaurant. The types of food we will be serving
will not only depend upon the day and time, but it will depend on the music we are providing
with the meal.
I believe this restaurant would be extremely successful and popular in Las Vegas. The
diverseness of atmospheres will resonate with the tourists that travel to Las Vegas to experience
something new. Las Vegas already provides clubs that have multiple venues with different
themes of music. They have not capitalized on providing locations with music that relates with
the food being served. The closes restaurant I can think of from my own experience is “Buca di
Beppo”. When you enter it gives an air of appearance that you have entered Italy, from the
music, the aromas, and the great Italian taste.
After renovating my uncle’s old law office we have separated the building into two areas
with an upstairs venue and downstairs venue. The upstairs venue will consist of sound proof
glass that limits the amount of outside noise. This area will be dedicated to guest that would
prefer a private party. I have been to other restaurants that had outside party areas but it was
usually located just outside the normal dining area. This area will have a private entrance and
private parking in the back. The guest will have the choice between Caribbean seafood, Italian,
Hawaiian luau styled, Japanese sushi, Chinese cuisine, and Southern US barbecue. We will
provide elegant purple clothed table settings with gold plated plates and gold colored eating
utensils. The room will have six windows along each wall. Each window will have long
flowing purple silk curtains. Depending upon how many guest we will be entertaining is how we
will establish how many tables would be provided. The basic setting will include seven tables
with four suede covered chairs to each table. A small dance floor will separate the eating area
from the stage where our live entertainers will provide themed music for the night.
The downstairs venue theme will change daily. We have a dedicated webpage to book in
advance for specific dates and times. We encourage our guest to call ahead and/or use the
website to make their reservations so that they get the exact theme they are seeking. I have
already hinted at the themes we will be providing. The themes consist of tastes of the Caribbean
on Mondays with reggaeton, a taste of Venice, Rome and Italy on Tuesdays with soft orchestras,
a Hawaiian luau on Wednesdays with Hawaiian and Polynesian music, Japanese all you can eat
sushi on Thursdays with Pop, Chinese New Year on Fridays with relaxing sounds of meditation,
and finally Mardi Gras on Saturdays with intricate jazz.
As you look around the downstairs venue you will notice that there is less natural light
due to only four windows on each wall. We use very similar window drapes to the upstairs. The
table cloths are the same. The major difference is the silver colored plates and silverware.
Along the right side of the downstairs venue we have a small 15 foot bar. The stage is along the
furthest wall from the main entrance and on the left we have positioned four booths and ten
tables. There is no dance floor but we do not discourage people to use the vast amounts of space
near their booths and tables to dance.
Outside the restaurant is a large parking lot with views of the strip and downtown Las
Vegas. Above the main entrance hangs the name of the building, “Tastes of the World”. Around
the sign hangs blinking violet lights. As you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a host or
hostess with a menu. The guest has a choice of where they would like to sit because staff split
all tips. Employee’s uniforms depend upon the daily theme. If it is Tuesday they are clad with
business suits to give a professional appearance. If the day is Saturday, employees are allowed
to dress comfortably with colorful beads around their necks adding to their personal flair.
After you are taken to your seat you are offered the daily special of drinks for the current
theme. If the night is Wednesday our themed drink will be Mai Tais or Lava Flows. If it is
Friday, the themed drinks will be colorful Boba drinks or teas. Each guest is welcome to reject
the themed drinks and our staff will provide regular fountain drinks and/or alcoholic beverages
of their choice. Our staff provides each guest with our custom made electronic menus. If the
guest has issues operating or navigating the menu our staff will be happy to assist. Once a guest
enters their order in the menu it is transmitted back to our chefs. They begin to fix the themed
signature dish and providing wait staff with the salad and table appetizer. Thursdays are all you
can eat sushi from dragon rolls to spicy ahi rolls. Dragon rolls consist of rolled sushi rice,
cucumber, avocado, and eel also called unagi. Spicy ahi rolls are simpler and consist of rolled
sushi rice, nori/seaweed, the fish ahi, and sriacha sauce. If you choose to visit our establishment
on Mondays we will treat your taste buds to the tastes of the Caribbean special. You will be
serenaded with endless shrimp, rock lobster tail, and conch salad (a mollusk chopped up with a
variety of fruits and vegetables).
At the end of the night we provide a table survey. Some of the questions are normal, how
did we do? Is there anything we can do better? What did you enjoy most about your visit? We
inquire how you heard about us. We assume it was by one of our many great reviews online, our
billboard as you enter from the South 15 freeway, or possibly our newest commercial. The
commercial starts by asking “Have you ever travelled to the Caribbean or experienced the
passions of Venice? We provide still shots of events from our venue and encourage you to
remember what happens in Vegas should never be forgotten. We cannot provide you the great
expanse of the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean but we can make you feel as if you are there. After
you return our surveys we provide a complimentary picture and conclude your stay with a warm
we will see you again soon.
