Sub:- Monitoring of HBD and HABD Alert.
Ref:- WCR HQ [Link].:-WCR/M/N/03/251(HBD) dt 02.02.2023
As per letter under reference a JPO was circulated to monitor alert of hot axle temperature
generated through HBD/HABD installed over division. It is here mention that the following
system has already been installed and functional over division for monitoring the axle box
temperature:

Following action to be taken in case alert/alarm is generated: -

1. Divisional control will collect the train no., coach/wagon no.
and axle position from loco.
2. Inform to concern sectional controller for stopping the train at
next station and arrange to check the concerned axle box
1 HBD physically by train crew and station staff for suspected hot
axle.
3. Based on the physical examination of axle box, the decision to
be taken jointly by train crew, station staff and C&W controller
whether the train can be moved cautiously with restricted
speed to the next C&W point or C&W staff required for
inspection and attending at the station itself.
4. In case of detachment , the shunting should be done
cautiously.
For Nominated En-route examination Trains
1. As soon as alarm/alert received , on duty SSE/JE will identify
2 HABD the coach no. and axle box.
(For a & b) 2. Physical checking of axle box temperature will be carried out
by non contact temperature measuring device.
3. Based on the result following action to be taken:-

detached.

For Through trains
1. As soon as alarm/alert received, on duty SSE/JE will identify
the train and coach/wagon no. and axle box position from loco.
2. Immediately inform divisional C&W control and on duty ASM at
station regarding train no., time passed HABD, Coach/wagon
no. & position from loco.
3. Further action will be decided after physical checking of rolling
stock.
3. HABD 1. As soon as alarm/alert received, on duty SSE/JE will identify
(For c ) the train, wagon no. and position of axle box from loco.
4. Physical checking of axle box temperature will be carried out
by non contact temperature measuring device.
2. If axle box temperature found above 90 degree centigrade-
wagon should be detached from rake for further investigation.
