EE2406: Electronic Circuits (S2)

MODULE – I: BJT, MOSFET and their Biasing schemes and small signal analysis (18
Hours)

Basic operation of BJT, Current components, Base width modulation or Early effect,
Transistor Biasing, Stabilization, Biasing Methods: Fixed Bias Configuration and Feedback
Resistor Bias Configuration, Voltage Divider Bias. (6 Hours)

Small-Signal Equivalent-Circuit Models; Small Signal Analysis of CE, CC, CB amplifiers (re
and H parameter model). Effects of RS and RL on CE amplifier operation, Emitter Follower;
Miller theorem, Cascade amplifier, Darlington Connection and Current Mirror Circuits, Low
frequency and high frequency response (6 Hours)

Enhancement type MOSFETs, its IV and biasing schemes; Small Signal Analysis of FETs:
Small-Signal Equivalent-Circuit Model, Small Signal Analysis of CS, CD, CG Amplifiers.
Effects of RS and RL on CS Amplifier; Source Follower and Cascaded System. (6 Hours)

MODULE – II:

Feedback amplifier and Oscillators: Concepts of negative feedback, Four Basic Feedback
Topologies (types of amplifier based on mixing and sampling network), General
Characteristics negative feedback amplifiers (stability, bandwidth, noise, distortion and
impedance) (3 Hours)
Sinusoidal or Harmonic Oscillators: Concept of positive feedback; RC Oscillators (Wein-
Bridge, RC-Phase Shift) and LC Oscillators (Hartley and Colpitts Oscillator). (2 Hours)

Operational Amplifier: Ideal Op-Amp characteristics, Differential Amplifier, Inverting,


Non-inverting amplifier, summing amplifier, Instrumentation amplifier, differentiator,
integrator, IV and VI Converters (2 Hours)
Active filters: Low pass, high pass, band pass, band stop, all pass filter (1 hour)
Comparators: Inverting, non-inverting comparator (1 hour)
Wave form Generator: Schmitt trigger, A stable, monostable, Voltage controlled oscillator
(VCO), 555 timers (3 hour)

Power Amplifiers: Class A amplifier (series fed and transformer coupled), Class B
amplifier (push pull), class AB, class C, Distortion in amplifiers (3 Hour)

MODULE – III:
Combinational Digital Circuits
Number system, Standard representation for logic functions, K-map representation, and
simplification of logic functions using K-map, minimization of logical functions. Don’t care
conditions, Adders, Sub tractors, BCD arithmetic, carry look ahead adder, serial adder, ALU,
digital comparator, Multiplexer, De- Multiplexer/Decoders, parity checker/generator, code
converters, priority encoders, decoders/drivers for display devices.
Sequential circuits and systems
A 1-bit memory, the circuit properties of bistable latch, the clocked SR flip flop, J-K-T and D-
types flip flops, applications of flip flops, shift registers, applications of shift registers, serial
to parallel converter, parallel to serial converter, ring counter, sequence generator, ripple
(Asynchronous) counters, synchronous counters, counters design using flip flops, special
counter IC’s, asynchronous sequential counters, applications of counters, State machines
A/D and D/A Converters
Digital to analog converters: weighted resistor/converter, R-2R Ladder D/A converter,
specifications for D/A converters, examples of D/A converter lCs, sample and hold circuit,
analog to digital converters: quantization and encoding, parallel comparator A/D
converter, successive approximation A/D converter, counting A/D converter, dual slope
A/D converter, A/D converter using voltage to frequency and voltage to time conversion,
specifications of A/D converters, example of A/D converter ICs.
