Many people argue that living in a big city brings more drawbacks than benefits.

To what extent do you

agree or disagree with this statement?

People argue that living in a big city brings more drawbacks than benefits. In this essay, I will discuss both
the advantages and disadvantages of this phenomenon, and I strongly believe that its negative impacts
outweigh its benefits.

On the one hand, living in a big city may bring many benefits. Firstly, inhabitants of big cities may have
more job opportunities due to the vast majority of big companies being located in these places, thus
catering to available positions for people that could help them make a living and ensure their financial
security. Another benefit is that inhabitants of big cities have more modern infrastructure than other
areas. For instance, high-quality healthcare and convenient road systems in big cities could meet the
higher demand of residents, hence improving the quality of life.

On the other hand, being a citizen of a large metropolis also imposes negative impacts on people’s lives.
Although big cities offer more career prospects, they are also associated with high competitiveness in
the working environment. In this environment, people might often need to work harder and invest more
time to develop the qualifications that help them ensure job security and surpass other candidates. This
could lead to a sense of depression and burnout due to the high level of working time that may
compromise the mental being of citizens. Additionally, while there are more entertainment choices,
people may deal with the higher expenses of living in large cities, which could impose a financial burden
on low-income individuals, lessening the quality of their lives.

In conclusion, while living in big metropolises would benefit its residents in several ways, I still believe
that there are far more disadvantages to living in these places.
