Lesson 2.4: Writing your own Teaching Philosophy
STATEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
A good education, whether it be basic or advanced, offers something for everyone. Through
education, students should be able to develop a strong sense of creativity, a high sense of self-esteem,
and a lifetime respect for learning.
Children are neither good or bad. It’s possible that they are both and this is influenced by their
upbringing. Children should be raised in an environment that encouraged them to study and make
moral choices.
The job of a teacher is to pass on the information that emerges from teaching. Teaching usually
entails following a set of rules and ensuring that students understand what is being taught. All of a
teacher's other responsibilities flow from this one, because if a teacher fails to meet this basic
responsibility of transferring knowledge, it may be impossible to make any other impact on the child.
• I want to assist individuals in living better lives and making the world a better place.
• My own educational beliefs are that every kid who attends school has the potential to achieve
in life, and that every student has something to teach me.
• I want to set an example for my kids, so I demonstrate respect, honesty, empathy,
accountability, timeliness, and a desire to learn.
• I believe that education should be relevant and exciting to kids, and that I can help them
develop a desire to learn. When possible, education should include students' families and
communities.
