Lab one
Crimping Cables and Building Peer-to-peer networks
There are two types of cable arrangement
✓ Straight-through cables have their two ends using the same standard, i.e. T568A or T568B
and are used to connect computers with switches or hubs. Use for different devices.
✓ Cross-over cables have one of their ends connected according to T568A and the other end
according to T568B. These are used to connect similar devices, like computers with
computers or hubs with hubs or switches with switches or hubs with switches. Use for the
same devices

Basics of Packet Tracer


Exercise 1
1. Create the following design using per to per on packet tracer. Using two end user device.

2. Change the end user name IT 2nd Year and IT 3rd Year Respectively.
3. Set static IP address 121.121.0.1 and 121.121.0.2 IT 2nd year and IT 3rd year
respectively.

To set static ip address Click on IT 2nd Year (single click) -----→ Click on Desktop
Tab --→ Click Static --→ configure the IP address as follows.

4. Using command prompt Ping IT 2nd to IT 3rd and Check the status of them.
Exercise 2
1. Create the following design using Switch on packet tracer. Using one switch and
four end user device.

2. Change the end user name IT1,IT2,IT3 and IT4 respectively.


3. Set the static IP address 168.168.0.1, 168.168.0.2, 168.168..0.3 and 168.168.0.4
IT1,IT2,IT3, and IT4 respectively.
4. Check the correctness of your connection by using ping command. i.e. click on IT1 and go to
command prompt and write a command ping 168.168.0.2.

1. Draw the following LAN design using packet tracer.

Design the following LAN using wired and wireless router and check the correctness of your
connection using ping command.
NB. You can use any IP address as long as they are on the same network.
