Umass Lowell essay:

By James Bermudez 02/01/2025

The greatest challenge Generation Z/ Gen Z will face is the
escalating climate crisis. Born between 1997 and 2012, Gen Z has
grown up witnessing the devastating impacts of global warming,
from intensifying natural disasters to rising sea levels. As they come
of age, they will inherit a planet in crisis, with far-reaching
consequences for their future. To combat this issue, several ideas
can be implemented, Education and Awareness: Incorporate
comprehensive climate education into school curricula,
empowering Gen Z with the knowledge to make informed decisions.
Renewable Energy Transition: Invest in renewable energy sources,
such as solar and wind power, to reduce dependence on fossil
fuels. Sustainable Practices: Encourage sustainable lifestyles,
including reducing meat consumption, using public transport, and
minimizing waste. Climate-Resilient Infrastructure: Develop
infrastructure that can withstand the impacts of climate change,
such as sea-level rise and extreme weather events. Global
Cooperation: Foster international cooperation to address the global
nature of climate change, sharing knowledge, technologies, and
best practices. Innovation and Technology: Leverage emerging
technologies, such as carbon capture and green hydrogen, to
reduce emissions and promote sustainable development. Youth
Empowerment: Support Gen Z's climate activism and leadership,
providing platforms for their voices to be heard and their ideas to be
implemented. By acknowledging the severity of climate change and
working together to implement these solutions, Gen Z can help
mitigate its effects and create a more sustainable future. I honestly
feel like nowadays this generation is held to a high standard of living
and isn't ready for it due to the financial and mental setting of the
world.
