Active Reading- actively engaging with the text we are reading.
-Is like having a teacher by your side.
-Reading should be ACTIVE.
Passive Reading- is when a reader does technically read the words but absorbs next
to nothing about what is written.
-Memorized without understanding.
4 Main Questions
1. What is the book about?
2. What is being said in detail & how?
3. True in whole or in part?
4. So what?
4 Levels of Reading
1. Elementary Reading- Symbols to information
2. Inspectional Reading- Allows us to decide if the book is worth our time.
3. Analytical Reading- Increases our understanding.
4. Syntopical Reading- Also known as comparative reading, and it represents the
most demanding and difficult reading of all.

 Pre Reading- Quick check of the book


 Superficial Reading- Reading book above your level.

Important notes to remember:


 Less time on non-important books
 More time on quality books
 Avoid being a passive reader
 Reading is an active task and requires
skill.
 Summary-saves time
 Make notes
 Quality books-NEXT LEVEL
 More effort
 Identify main points
