Years passed, during which the Surfer was plagued by such menaces as the mysterious Stranger, the demon lord Mephisto and the cunning Dr. Doom, who even managed to steal the Surfer's power for a time. But amidst all the danger, the Surfer also made some friends. He teamed with Dr. Strange, the Hulk and The Sub-Mariner and foughtas one of, the Defenders. He allied himself with the Mighty Thorand the Avengers and, ofcourse, hestayed very close with the Fantastic Four. Even though he had made these friends thathe cared so much about, the Surfer longed to be free and to ride the spaceways once more. And finally, thanks to Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, the Surfer got his wish. Using some high tech gadgets and good ol’ brainpower, the bar- rier was breached and the Surfer was free to roam the cosmos once again. . Since then, he has made his peace with his former master, Galactus, was re-united with his first love, Shalla-Bal, and has confronted and triumphed over such antagonists as Ego the living planet, the mad god Thanos and the inner demons which hadso long plaguedhis soul. And through it al, the Surfer has continued to shine as one of Marvel's brightest stars! © SILVER GAUNTLETS By Michael Berry, WIZARD:You got yourstart in comics by work- Fok tena acne “uel oclsors-aegt eee epee aslo hie ae naa seinen ie Ionia on ica eT ane ecaelae ours Tarel en) all the time anyway, but at the first WonderCon in Cakland, Tom deFalco made his first public appearance as editor-in-chief. Where does the Silver Surfer keep his feel ucts LIM: In his pocket. | don’t know! | was talking with a friend the other day about how many times Galactus has come down to Earth, threatening to devour our swell li'l planet (on one sitting, no less). Neither of us could really remember an exact number, but we figure it's got to be somewhere near 20 or so. (If you actually know the figure, don’t send it in | like my gen- eralized figure much better.) Of course, every single time, without failing the Fantastic Four (usually with help from the Silver Surfer) manage to stop him with the Ultimate Nullifier or some other suitably nebulous weapon. And Galactus, being an Omnipotent Entity faaaaar above such petty things as, oh say revenge, imprisons the Surfer on the Earth for all time. This got me thinkin’ a bit, so’s | ruminated a while, and | came to these conclusions. Galactus is a spoiled little rich kid, who could not possibly support his own great mass, let alone that huge suit of armor. | mean, the guy's like 40 stories tall, which would mean he’d = have ~— to weigh consider- ably more than Raymond Burr (though not much). So: #1, Grav- itationally speaking, how could he support his own weight, and #2, wouldn't the armor just get too damn heavy? Excuse me while | go look up some vital info. Thanks for waiting. | dug up my dee-lux copy of the Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe, and I'm presently looking at the “Galactus” entry. | stand corrected that the big guy is not 40 stories tall (he’s really only 28 feet, 9 inches), and weighing in as he does at 18.2 tons, he is slightly lighter than Mr. Burr. 10] eee US An) Aa y here, courtesy ICTS E acl nC SUI eRe asic ars a full-body suit EU eet a oie extraterrestrial metal Pretty convenient! | supp fala] CO a Te Tee acre ain etree CR) Uae Le Oo SUELO All | have to add to this is tl ee melee me are mer eCards ee RCUE Lee Carne my book.
