Flood Flow Canal from SRSP

Preamble
The Flood Flow Canal (FFC) project envisages
Irrigation facility to an area of 2.2 lakh acres in the
drought prone areas of Telangana region duly
diverting about 20 TMC of surplus waters from
Sriramasagar Project during floods and storing in
Balancing reservoirs. Under Re-Engineering of the
FFC project, the ayacut has been increased to 2.52
lakh acres.
Source and Location
Source: Godavari River, and location: The Head Regulator and Approach Channel
for drawing the surplus Flood Flows are located in the foreshore of SRSP Reservoir near
Mupkal(V), Balkonda (M), Nizamabad District.
Latitude : 18o-54’-49” North
Longitude : 78o -20’- 34” East.

In Reengineering, MMR R/s Canal capacity has enhanced to 4600 Cusecs from 2652 Cusecs.

Scope of Project
 This project envisages irrigating an ayacut of 220000 Acres in erstwhile Karimnagar &
Warangal Districts. In re-engineering the ayacut has increased to 2,52,882 acres.
 Project comprises of Mothe reservoir with gross capacity of 1.645 TMC to irrigate an
ayacut of 20000Acres.
 Formation of Mid Manair Reservoir with gross capacity of 25.873 TMC.
 Mid Manair Reservoir Left & Right side canals to irrigate an ayacut of 200000 Acres
(MMR Left side canal from Km. 0.00 to Km. 14.600, MMR Right side canal from Km
0.000 to Km 36.125 ,MMR R/s canal from 36.125 to 75.140, Link canal from Km 0.00 to
Km 6.900, Lift system from Thotapally to Gouravelly reservoir.

Components

1. Head Regulator at the fore shore of Sriram Sagar Project near Mupkal(V), Balkonda
(M), Nizamabad District - Completed.
2. Excavation of FFC Canal 122 Kms length along with structures with a discharge carrying
capacity of 623 cumecs - Completed.
3. Formation of Mothe Reservoir with a capacity of 1.645 TMC Canals and distributory
system to feed an ayacut of 20,000 acres under Mothe Reservoir - Not tackled.
4. Link Canal from Flood Flow Canal at Km 121.900 to feed Lower Manair Dam
5. Formation of Mid Manair Reservoir with a capacity of 25.873 TMC.
6. Mid Manair L/S canal with distributory system for 14.60 km to irrigate an ayacut of
10,500 acres, R/s canal and distributory system for 75.140 km up to & beyond
Thotapally Reservoir to irrigate an ayacut of 69,500 Acres.
7. Construction of Link Canal from Km. 0.000 (MMR R/s Canal @ Km 36.125 (End Of
Package -II) to Km. 6.900 (Joining at Km. 0.650 of Approach Channel of Thotapally Lift
scheme) and Branch canal to connect the MMR R/s Canal beyond Thotapally.

9. Formation of Gouravelly Reservoir, L/s & R/s canals with distributory system to irrigate
1, 06,000 acres.
10. Lift from Gouravelly to Gandipally Reservoir and formation of Gandipally reservoir and
Canals & distributory system under Gandipally Reservoir to irrigate 44,000 acres.
11. Providing Lift Irrigation Scheme on Moolavagau from Foreshore of Mid Manair
Reservoir to supplement Gudi Cheuvu of Vemulawada Temple Town, Vemulawada (M)
of Rajanna Siricilla District.
12. Construction of High Level OT Sluices to feed MI tanks from IFFC at Km 61.00, Km
62.50, Km 64.80, Km 72.40, Km 81.70, Km 88.50, Km 96.55, Km 98.10 Km 112.600 and
Km 115.400, Km 121.750 in Jagtial and Karimnagar Districts.
13. SRSP Punarjeevana Pathakam : Lifting of 1 TMC of water per day for 60 days from the
Flood Flow Canal system in 3 stages to SRSP reservoir for Drinking water and Irrigation
requirements duly strengthening the existing canal with lining in banking and
vulnerable reaches.

 Source of Funding: State Plan (75 %) and AIBP (25 %)



 Cost of the Project:
 The project was cleared by CWC in the year 1996 for an estimated cost of Rs 1331
Crores.
 Further, the Government have accorded revised administrative approval for Phase-I &
II works of FFC for Rs.4729.26 Crores vide [Link].98, I&CAD [[Link](1)] Dept,
dated.18-08-2009.
 Now, IFFC Project was approved for Rs. 5940.09 Crores in Technical advisory
committee meeting of Central Water Commission in its 128th TAC meeting held on
29-02-2016.

Budget for this year: Budget Provision for the year 2018-19 is Rs. 689.94 Crores.
Expenditure Incurred: Cumulative Total Expenditure incurred on the Project up to
03/2018 is Rs. 5975.76 Crores.
