I. Introduction

Broiler poultry farming is a lucrative business. Generally, highly meat

productive birds or poultry breeds are called broiler poultry. But broiler

chicken is a special species of poultry, which is a great secret. Only four

countries of the world know about this secret, and they supply and maintain all

the demands of broiler chickens.

II. Objectives
1. To provide knowledge and skills about care and managements

of chicks.

2. To learn more about raising chicken for their meat and order to

damage a small-scale skills of backyard farming.

3. To develop a new idea about raising broiler for the future

business.

III. Problems Encountered

Disease and infections have always been a major concern to poultry.

Sanitation the pathogen organisms are present but are not a threat to the

bird’s health. The most important thing to remember when striving for a

sanitized environment is that cleanliness is essential. So, to maintain

cleanliness even in the chicks or in its cage, everything must be organized

whether outside or inside it. Before Jennelyn my sister puts the feed and

drink, she first washes food tray and drink container before giving food to the

chicks. She also cleans the cage of the broiler and when the cardboard box is

full of dirt, she removes it and puts the waste in the waste disposal and

replaces it with a new cardboard box in the floor of broiler house to prevent
any infection or disease caused. And the dirt that usually accumulates and

causes a smell at the bottom is also removed and cleaned by her and puts it

in the sack to be used as fertilizer for the crops. She does his cleaning three

times a week and it requires attention, care and proper cleaning to keep the

broilers away from infection or disease that we do not expect.

IV. Activities Undertaken

HOUSING

The brooding room should be heated prior to arrival of the chicks. A newly

hatched supplemental heat to maintain its body temperature, therefore an

external heat source must be to chicks in the first few weeks.

In the process of brooding, it is necessary that before the chicks arrive their

housing must be ready and arranged. Housing is their place from the

beginning and until it grows up. Jose Erlan Salgado was the one who made

the cage of the chicks because he was in school those days. He just helped

when it was over. In its preparation the cardboard box that controls the cold is

already placed inside and on the floor of the prison and inside are their food

containers and drink containers. And their infrared bulb is positioned in the

middle of the brooder ring. The brooder rings are used to confine chicks in a

small area close to feed and water ultimately allowing comfort level. Jose

Erlan Salgado was the one who put the curtain around the outside of the

cage, but the only available things he put were the tarpaulin and old tarpaulins

which control the cold and protection of the newly hatched chicks.
Brooding

Brooding is the period after hatch when special care and attention must be

given to chicks to ensure their health and survival. Brooding is also classified

as natural and artificial brooding, and it ensures the proper growth of body

tissues in chickens. The development of tissues through brooding helps gain

a proper body temperature and a good body framework. In brooding care, she

used a lamp with an infra-red bulb with 50 watts that has placed in the center

of the cage to give the chicks right temperature. And when they feel hot father

raises the bulb and when it cold, she lowers it. Proper attention and care are

required for brooding and the continuous giving of food and drink to it. And the

light is 24 hours to prevent the chicks from getting cold and to give them right

warmth for their continued development until their maturity. Prior the delivery
