Meeting with Instructor:
As an Adjunct Instructor I have no office on campus, however I am available to meet with
students 30 minutes before, or at conclusion of class, in the classroom.
Be advised, the Syllabus is subject to change at the instructor’s discretion. There may be times
when we do not meet in person, on campus, due to weather, illness, or other conflicts. In those
instances a video lesson and test will be posted on Canvas.
Syllabus Subject to Change:
Should there be a change the content of the Syllabus, or the method of instruction you will be
notified through an email using my Canvas course roster.
Course Learning Outcomes:
“Students learn the advanced grammatical uses of ASL, how sign movements can be modified to

Weekly Tests: At least one test will be given each class to test receptive and/or
expressive skills and the vocabulary introduced the previous week. These weekly
tests cannot be made up – if you miss class, you miss the quiz and your grade
will be affected. These quizzes will make up 30% of your final grade.
Mid-Exams
A Mid-Exams test will be given half way through the course, which will make up
40% of your final grade.
Participation: 10%
Course Grading System:
Class Participation: An immense amount of material is covered in each 2.5
hour class. If you miss a class, you will fall behind, as each class builds on the
previous. You are responsible to learn any material that is missed by contacting
a classmate to schedule a private tutoring/catch-up session. Students are able
to miss one class, (excluding mid-term or final exams) without it affecting their
grade. For each additional class missed, 3 points will be deducted per class from
your final grade. You are expected to read assigned materials and view your
student video/text prior to class (unless instructed otherwise). Points will also be
deducted from your final grade for lack of participation in class exercises, group
work, etc. Class attendance and participation makes up 10% of your final grade.
Course Grading Scale:
100-90%= A
89-80% = B
79-70% = C
60-69% = D
59%-Below = F
KU Change of Grade Policy: Grades cannot be changed after they have been
submitted to the University Registrar except in certain cases specified by University
Senate Rules and Regulations at:

BREAKS: We will not have scheduled breaks as we have a lot of material to
cover. Please feel free to step out as needed to use the restroom, etc. We will
end each normal class 20 min. early to do Expressive evaluations. Those
students who are not scheduled to be evaluated may leave at this time.
