Unit 9

Present Perfect Simple vs. Continuous

Czasu Present Perfect Simple używamy:

• gdy mowa o czynnościach, które się zakończyły, ale miały miejsce
w trwającym nadal okresie, tj. today, this week, this month, this year;
• gdy mówimy o doświadczeniach życiowych*;
• gdy używamy so far lub kładziemy nacisk na ilość wykonanej do tej pory pracy;
• ze słowami recently oraz lately (ostatnio);
• w zdaniach z ever (kiedykolwiek) oraz never (nigdy);
• z already (już) w zdaniach oznajmujących i pytających, z yet (już)
w zdaniach przeczących i pytających oraz z just (właśnie).

Czasu Present Perfect Continuous używamy:

• gdy mówimy o ciągłych czynnościach, które rozpoczęły się jakiś czas temu i wciąż
trwają, kładąc nacisk na długość ich wykonywania lub ich tymczasowość;
• gdy widać ślady wykonania jakiejś czynności.

W zdaniach ze słowami for oraz since, a także w pytaniach z how long używamy:
• czasu Present Perfect Simple – jeśli mówimy o stanach, np. How long have
you known each other? – Jak długo się znacie?;
• czasu Present Perfect Continuous – jeśli mówimy o czynnościach, np. How
long have you been looking for a job now? – Od jak dawna szukasz pracy?

* W takich sytuacjach często chcemy powiedzieć, po raz który coś nastąpiło. Przydaje się do
tego konstrukcja This is the first/second/third… time + podmiot + Present Perfect, np.:
This is the first time I’ve heard about it – Słyszę o tym po raz pierwszy, This is the third time
this week I have caught you taking candies without permission – Już trzeci raz w tym tygodniu
przyłapałem cię na podbieraniu cukierków bez pozwolenia.
