PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the class, students should be able to;
i. Define program
ii. Define programming language
iii. State the characteristics of a good program
iv. State the precautions to be taken in writing a program

CONTENT

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

Program: A program is a set of computer instructions to carry out a task.

Programming: this is the process of writing instructions using computer language. It is also known as
coding. The Language used in communicating or giving these instructions to a computer is known as
Programming language.

Characteristic of a good program

1. Clarity
2. Readability
3. Efficiency
4. Accuracy
5. Maintainability
6. Generality

Precautions to be taken when writing a program

1. Do not rush in developing the program


2. Keep your thoughts straight in order to avoid mistakes
3. Be steady and patient during program writing
4. Do not take any shortcut approach
5. Follow order of execution and follow it
6. Do not skip any step
