Recycling
Introduction
Recycling is the collection and processing of waste such as paper and
cardboard, glass or plastic. This involves creating new products based on
those same materials. A new opportunity for the Earth, which can be
protected if the benefits of recycling, the correct way to separate waste and
the challenges that this activity faces in the coming years are understood.
Why do we need recycling?
Recycling is very important, because through it we contribute to healing the
planet, one of the ways to recycle is the implementation of different trash
cans depending on the material, the three best known types are the
following:
•The glass one: it is responsible for storing all kinds of garbage made with
glass, this glass can be used to create different things molding it, an example
of things made of recycled glass, are the fives or marbles
•Paper ones: It is responsible for storing all types of garbage that use paper,
on Tik Tok there are videos where we are shown how from recycled paper,
cutting it into strips, liquefying it, and doing other processes, new sheets of
paper can be created
•Organic waste: Organic waste is things like peels or residues that are left
behind when consuming fruits or vegetables, these can be reused to make
fertilizers for plants or crops
The Process of Recycling
Depending on different factors, there are three ways to recycle materials
•Primary or closed-loop recycling. The process by which recycled materials
are converted into others of the same type. For example, the aluminum in
cans is recycled to make more cans.
•Secondary recycling. The waste material is processed to make other
products with the same material. For example, the recycling of tires is used to
make other products with rubber.
•Tertiary recycling. Materials go through a process that modifies their
chemical structure to produce a new material. For example, different
products can be made from plastic recycling depending on the polymers
contained in the waste.
How Can We Contribute to Recycling?
1. *Separate Waste*: Sort recyclables like paper, plastic, glass, and metal from
general waste to ensure they can be properly processed.
2. *Reduce Use*: Minimize single-use items by opting for reusable bags,
bottles, and containers.
3. *Educate Others*: Spread awareness about the importance and methods
of recycling to encourage community participation.
4. *Support Policies*: Advocate for and support local and national recycling
programs and legislation.
5. *Purchase Recycled Products*: Buy items made from recycled materials to
support the recycling industry and reduce demand for new resources.
List some benefits of recycling.
1. *Reduces Landfill Waste*: Recycling diverts waste from landfills, extending
their lifespan and reducing the need for new landfill sites.
2. *Conserves Resources*: Reusing materials saves raw resources like timber,
water, and minerals.
3. *Energy Savings*: Recycling typically uses less energy than producing new
products from raw materials.
4. *Decreases Pollution*: Reducing the need for raw material extraction and
processing lowers air and water pollution.
5. *Promotes Sustainability*: Encourages responsible consumption and
waste management, supporting a circular economy.
Project
* Creating upcycled planters from old plastic bottles benefits the environment
by reducing plastic waste and promoting plant growth.
Materials:
1. Old plastic bottles
2. Paint and brushes
3. Soil
4. Seeds or small plants
5. Scissors and glue
Benefits
This project reduces plastic waste, conserves resources, and fosters a greener
environment by encouraging gardening.
Conclusion
In conclusion, recycling has the positive result: Energy savings, less pollution
and greenhouse gas emissions, improvement of global warming, savings of
raw materials and water, job creation, improvement of life in the oceans,
higher levels of oxygen on the planet thanks to less deforestation, better
quality of life and many more.
