Introduction
Baseball Five is a new modality that arrived in Venezuela, to be part of the
official program of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WSBC), starting
in 2019.

The Home team starts the game on defense and the Guest team starts the
game on offense. The objective of the defensive team is to eliminate (make “outs”)
three players from the offensive team to change sides. Then the defensive team
becomes the offensive team and vice versa.

Land Measurements.

The distance from home to 1st and from home to 3rd is 13 meters.

Distance behind the bases is 5 meters.

Batting box is 2 meters x 2 meters.

The 1st base is double and the rest are single.

The height of the perimeter fence is 1 meter.

Game Preliminaries.

It is played in 5 innings, each inning has 3 outs and the Shirley rule applies in case
of a tie at the end of the 5th inning.
The teams are made up of 8 players (minimum 6) and 5 play.

A ball that passes above the waist of the last player on defense is out.

Baseball Five
Baseball Five is a new modality that arrived in Venezuela, to be part of the
official program of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WSBC), starting
in 2019.

The most important feature of Baseball Five, which also differentiates it from
other sports, is that it can be played in urban areas without the need for specific
facilities or large spaces.

This sport will have the support of WBSC, Min-Deporte, IND and the COV
by holding an international seminar between October 10 and 12 in the city of
Caracas (Capital District), also giving them a certificate of participation endorsed
by the entities.

Regulation

Rules of the Game

The Home team starts the game on defense and the Guest team starts the
game on offense. The objective of the defensive team is to eliminate (make “outs”)
three players from the offensive team to change sides. Then the defensive team
becomes the offensive team and vice versa.

Positions

1st base
2nd base

3rd base

Shortstop

Offensive

The offensive team will present a batting order before the start of the game,
with a list of 5 active players batting from 1 to 5. The batting order will be followed
throughout the game unless a player is replaced by another. In that case, the
substitute will take the place of the replaced player in the batting order.

Batting

The act of hitting takes place while the player is in the batter's box remaining
within the lines until he hits the ball into valid territory with his palm or fist.

Illegal Coup

The first bounce must be at least 3 meters from home plate / 2 meters for the U-15
category.

Points / Races

A run is scored just like a baseball or softball game, the player must go
through 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Home Plate in one offensive session in order.

OUTS

The defensive team will eliminate 3 opponents each turn to switch sides and
become the offensive team.

How to make outs

 Touching the base (with the ball in possession) on which a player is required
to run.

By catching a batted ball before it hits the ground at least once.

Retiring a runner when he/she is not on a base (tagging the runner with the
ball in his/her hands). If a batter reaches first base safely but does not stay in the
safe area, he may be ruled out if the fielder tags him while he is outside the safe
area.

How offensive players eliminate themselves due to illegal behaviors/actions:

Touching (stepping on) one of the lines of the batter's box while hitting the
ball.

Hitting the ball into foul territory.

When hit by a legally batted ball.

Failing to cause a batted ball to touch fair territory at least once before
touching or passing over the fences.

By not respecting the batting order and batting in place of a teammate.

By a runner leaving the base before the batter hits the ball.

Passing a teammate in the action of running the bases.

When tagged while two or more runners are on the same base. The one
behind in the batting order will be OUT.

NOTE: Runners must do everything possible to avoid collision with defenders. If an

umpire decides that a player could have avoided a collision, the runner must be
thrown out.

The player who enters the batter's box out of turn must be ruled out, the
batting order must continue with the correct player.

Dead Ball
 If, after a valid hit, the ball goes out of court and the defense can no longer
reach it, play stops.

If no fielder touched the ball, each runner will advance to the next base (no
extra base is awarded).

If the hit hits a fielder who makes an error and the ball goes out of bounds,
each runner advances to the next base (the batter goes to second base, the runner
on first base goes to third base, and so on…).

Bases Loaded, 2 OUTS – Special Case.

In a bases loaded, 2 out situation, if the runner on 3rd base is to be the next
batter in the order, each runner advances one base: the runner on third goes to
bat, and a pinch runner is placed on first base. For teams with only 5 players, the
first player declared out in that inning becomes a pinch runner on first base. The
batting order must always be respected.

Interference

If the umpire deems that a runner is intentionally interfering with defensive

play, he should be called out.

If the umpire deems that a runner is intentionally interfering with defensive play, he
should be called out.

Substitutions

Tactical situations can take place between tackles and whenever teams
switch between attack and defense.

A starting player may re-enter the game after being substituted only once.

A starting player may re-enter the game for any player on the field.

Reserve players can enter the game only once, therefore once they are
substituted, they cannot re-enter.
 End of the Game

The game ends at the end of the fifth inning if one team has scored more runs than
the opponent. In the event that the home team is ahead in score after the visiting
team has completed its fifth offensive inning, the game ends and the home team
wins.

History of Baseball Five

It is clear that modern baseball developed in the United States, although the
exact origin of the game is difficult to determine. Most studies believe that baseball
evolved from a variety of similar games. A popular legend has it that Abner
Doubleday, who became an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil
War (1861-1865), invented baseball in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839. Although
there is currently no support for this myth, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and
Museum are located in Cooperstown.

With the aim of promoting the practice of Baseball Five (street style) in the
country, the Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FVB) will organize this weekend the
second round of the discipline in Caracas, Capital District.

The information was released by the entity, chaired by Aracelis León, in a

press release published on Friday.

Baseball Five, in which two teams of five players each compete, is played
on a diamond painted on a hard surface. Clenched hands are used to hit the ball, a
characteristic element of the traditional “pelotica de goma criolla” (criolla rubber
ball).

The new sport, whose exhibition matches will take place on Saturday and
Sunday in the 23 de enero parish of the “Sultana del Ávila”, has the recognition of
the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC).

The Batter

 Batter who leaves the batter's box or steps on the line when performing the
Batting Action is out.
 A batter who completes a turn that does not correspond to him is out.
 A slow-moving batted ball is out.
 Batted ball and comes out with a high bounce is out.
 The Corridor

 Any runner who leaves the base before the batter makes contact with the
ball will be declared out.
 A runner who slides will be declared out.
 A runner who goes past 1st base and is tagged will be declared out.

Between the bases, except short – Field.

The Defense

 Each team on the field will have 5 players:

 1st base

 2nd base

 3rd base

 Torpedo boat

 Short – Field

 Defensive players may not defend beyond the imaginary line between the
bases, except for short-field.

The Land and its dimensions

The fairgrounds are square in shape, 18 metres or 59 feet on each side,
with one corner coinciding with the home plate. The ideal shape and size for all
bases is a square measuring 50 (1.6 feet) centimeters on each side.
 Conclusion

This work teaches us what Baseball Five is, respecting its rules it defines
how it is played. History of Baseball Five, Field Measurements. The distance from

over 1st base and is touched will be declared out.
