3X3X3 THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE PUZZLE CUBE
App : Learn Basics/ [Multimedia] Basic knowledge
Types and features of blocks
3x3x3 puzzle cube consists of three types of blocks: Center Block, Edge Block and Corner Block.
The 6 center blocks that are flashing now show one cell each and are immobilized.
The 12 edge blocks that are flashing now show two cells each, and when moved, the edge blocks will change positions with other edge blocks
only.
The 8 corner blocks that are flashing now show three cells each, and when moved, the corner blocks will change positions with other corner
blocks only.
Mixing a puzzle is called "scramble" and finding a solution of a puzzle is called "solving." To scramble or solve, you have to rotate one or two
of the six sides to change the position of the edge blocks and corner blocks.
Defining the position, direction of rotation and location of cells
To explain the solution for the puzzle, we define the position of the puzzle block, the direction of rotation of each side, and the name of the
area for the location of the cell as follows:
'The position of the puzzle block is to explain the relative perspective of the user looking at the puzzle block. When the user looks at the puzzle
block, the face that shows all nine cells is called the front face, the face where three cells are on the right is called the right face, the face
where three cells are on the top is called the top face, the face where three cells are on the left is called the left face, the face where three
cells are on the bottom is called the bottom face, and the last invisible face is called the back face.
To explain in 90 degree angle, there are four directions per each 6 face, or total 24 positions, but in this learning guide, as we will not change
the top and bottom positions, it is expressed in four positions: Red front face, Green front face, Purple front face, and Blue front face.
The direction of rotation of the puzzle block is to explain which direction to turn in which relative position. In this guide, the angle is expressed
in units of 90 degrees. Turning the front clockwise is called C, turning it counterclockwise is called O. The three cells on the right side are
called U to rotate upwards and D to move downwards. The three cells on the top are called L to rotate to the left and R to rotate to the right.
The three cells on the left side are called E to rotate upward and G to rotate downward.
Defining the layers and positions of cells
To express the position of the cells in the puzzle block, we define the layers and cell positions as follows. From the bottom floor, we call 1st
floor, 2nd floor and 3rd floor in order.
Meaning of cell's fit
If a cell's color is the same as that of a center block cell on the side where the cell is located, the cell is said to have been 'fitted'.
BEGINNER'S 8 STEP SOLUTION FOR 3X3X3 PUZZLE CUBE
Different from the existing analog cubes, eX-Mars can electronically change the cells positions freely. Taking advantage of this, we will explain
the 8th step first in reverse order so that users can enjoy the experience of completing a solution while making it easier to experience the
repetition of the higher steps.
Step 8
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 1) Learn solving 8th algorithm for beginner
1) In step 8, if there is any 3rd floor corner block with three cells fit, position the corner block on the right side of the back, and if there is no
such corner cell, start in any position.
2) The formula for 8th step is CDCGG OUCGG CC. Run the step 8 formula and go back to 1). Repeat this few times to complete the entire
solution.

Step 7
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 2) Learn solving 7th algorithm for beginner
1) In step 7, first, users need to find the yellow cells on the side of the 3rd floor and then position them on the front left side(a) and the right
side of the back(b). Priority is given to (a) over (b)
2) The step 7 formula is DOEC UOGC.Run the step 7 formula and go back to 1). Repeat few times to complete step 7.
[ex) Starting step 7] [ex) End of step 7]
Step 6
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 3) Learn solving 6th algorithm for beginner
1) Step 6 is finished when colors of all 4 center cells on the 3rd floor fit with their center blocks.
2) In step 6, users need to rotate the top so that two sides of center cells on the 3rd floor are fitted with center blocks.
3) There are two cases, where two fitted center cells on the 3rd floor are in 180 degrees or 90 degrees.
If they are in 180 degrees, then position one of the two center cells on the 3rd floor to face the front, and change their positions to 90 degrees
by using the step 6 formula GL ELG LLE.
If in 90 degrees, position one of the 3rd floor center cells in the front and the other in the left side. Use the step 6 formula GL ELG LLE and 'L'
one time to complete the step 6.
In below example, the blue and violet center cells on the 3rd floor are fitted in 90 degrees angle. So the blue center block is positioned in front.

Step 5
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 4) Learn solving 5th algorithm for beginner
1) In step 5, place the yellow cell on the top in position a, b or c. (Priority a > c > b)
2) The step 5 formula is C ULDR O. Run step 5 formula and go back to 1). Repeat until the yellow cells fit in cross shape.

Step 4
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 5) Learn solving 4th algorithm for beginner
1) In step 4, users need to find the white cell that is not fitted. If the white cell is on the left, you must execute the left formula and on the right,
the right formula. There are three cases of unfitted white cells positions; 3rd floor side, 1st floor side and the top.
The priorities to run the formula is as follows;
The 1st priority is when the white cell is located on the 3rd floor side, the 2nd priority is when the white cell is located on the side of the 1st
floor, and the 3rd priority is when the white cell is on the top. You can run it repeatedly until all white cells are fitted. It doesn't matter which one
you run first, left or right.
2) If an unfitted white cell is on the side of the 3rd floor (Front, Right, Back, Left), you must turn the top first to match the cell on the side
adjacent to the white cell.
Then, place the white cell on front and then use the formula.
If the white cell is on the right, use R URD RR URD, the right formula of step 4
If the white cell is on the left, use L ELG LL ELG, the left formula of step 4
3) If a white cell is on the side of the 1st floor (Front, Right, Back, Left), place the white cell on front and use the formula.
If the white cell is on the right, R URD RR URD, the right formula of step 4
If the white cell is on the left, use L ELG LL ELG, the left formula of step 4
4) If the white cell is on top, rotate the top to place the white cell to the bottom (close to the front).
If the white cell is on the right, R URD RR URD, the right formula of step 4
If the white cell is on the left, use L ELG LL ELG, the left formula of step 4
5) Repeat 2) to 4) to finish step 4.
[ex) Starting step 4] [ex) End of step 4]
Step 3
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 6) Learn solving 3rd algorithm for beginner
1) In step 3, first, users have to find an edge block on the 3rd floor that do not contain yellow cell on the side.
If there is an edge block on the 3rd floor that does not contain yellow cell on the side, position the center block of the same color with the top
color of the edge block in front.
Then, if the center block of the same color with the front edge block on the 3rd floor is;
on right side, use URD, the right formula of step 3.
on left side, use ELG, the left formula of step 3
2) If there is no edge block on the 3rd floor that does not contain yellow cells on the side, position the face with unfitted cells on the 2nd floor in
front.
Then, if the unfitted cell is;
on right side, use URD, the right formula of step 3.
on left side, use ELG, the left formula of step 3.
3) Repeat 1) and 2) to finish step 3.
[ex) Starting step 3] [ex) End of step 3]
Step 2
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 7) Learn solving 2nd algorithm for beginner
1) Find 3rd floor cells with white edge block on top side.
2) Rotate the top to fit colors of side of edge blocks found in 1) and then rotate the fitted side 180 degrees.
3) Repeat 1) and 2) to finish step 2.
[ex) Starting step 2] [ex) End of step 2]
Step 1
App : Learn solving algorithm / [Multimedia] Stage 8) Learn solving 1st algorithm for beginner
1) Place yellow center block on top.
2) Find edge blocks with white colors.
3) In case an edge block with a white cell is under the bottom, and if a white cell is located on top in the position after turning the side
containing the edge block 180 degrees, rotate the top so that the white cell on top is not pushed back, and then rotate the side with the white
edge block 180 degrees.
4) In case an edge block with a white cell is in side (front, right, back, or left), and if a white cell is located on top in the position after turning
the side containing the edge block 90 degrees, rotate the top so that the white cell is not pushed back, and then rotate the side with white
edge block 90 degrees.
5) Step 1 is finished when all 4 white edge blocks are on top.
